Theres a few of these available on e bay at the moment (not the Q) for the right price and Im just trying to get an idea how loud they are. It doesn't realy bother me,but the noise natzis and cops are a hassle I can do without.

I understand 'loud' is a subjective thing so put it this way, its currently un-corked with the end cap mod only. I would still call this 'quiet-ish'.

It also comes with the spark arrestor, so I guess this would shut it up a little more if need be.

cheers.

I'm a lawyer, not a dirt bike afficionado. But i'm doing my best to tear it down, clean it, add some goodies, and get it ready for the TAT this summer. This forum is just what I need--thanks! So here go the first of many questions I have:

I have a uni foam air filter. Just under that is a metal screen. No mention of it in the repair manual. Anyone else have this? Is this a necessary item? Should I grease both sides of the metal screen when I re-install? Treat the screen itself with anything?

Decided to do some of the usual maintenance items last night.

The tear down - tank & seat removal. Cleaned some dirt and crude off first, more to clean while it's apart. I then adjusted the valves, added a new spark plug, cleaned the air filter and cleaned out the gas tank. I can see the dirt being in the tank, but weeds too...really?

Next up....Sub frame removal to get the rear shock out for servicing and a new Eibach spring.

Somewhere back in the annals of piggydom history here there are some pretty deep discussions on corrosion, galvanic reaction, what to grease and what to lock. While this may not help those who already have motion begrudged radial ramp hex devices, it will help those who don't already properly maintain their bikes. Here's a few rules to save internet bandwidth.

So I'm down to the subframe in my tear-down project. I notice that the only thing keeping up the back half of the bike is one bolt through the frame. Only my bolt doesn't have a nut on the end of it! Shouldn't it? Not much of the bolt is showing through to the other side, and the frame weld right there is bumpy enough to restrict a nut anyway. Maybe it is supposed to be like that, but it seems counter-intuitive and the shop manual does not say. thanks.

The foot peg problem fix is to weld a bracket on the peg so the bracket

goes over the frame and the front bolt goes through the other side of

the bracket.

The problem with the carby is the float height is to high, drop it 2mm from stock and you won't have any issues.

I've spent the last four days trying to get my swingarm bolt out. I put it off for about a year, and that's about six months too long. I ride where there's a lot of sand, and salty water.

I've been doing the PB blaster and heat method and finally got the bolt to turn, but no luck in getting it to move outwards yet. I've been using a brass drift and a 3# hammer to try and knock it out with no luck yet. The bolt acts like it's seized/galled onto the bearing sleeves.

Hy guys,

I read few months ago (unfortunately I didn't remember where) that during Baja race or during riding in places where there is a lot of sand (i.e. desert), due to the non-perfect sealing between the air filter and the airbox of the XR 650 R several riders fit the airbox with a special rubber gasket.

This rubber gasket should avoid the sand flow into the airbox and, of course, save the engine.....

Do you know who produce this gasket? Where can I find it? Are there other solutions?
