Plastic body panels reconditioning Empty Plastic body panels reconditioning

My white side plastics have deep scratches in and become dirty instantly. I just scraped all the scratches out of my right side panel with a blade then 320 - 400 - 600 - 800 - 1200 water paper. I tried polishing with furniture polish but it is still mat white. Has anyone had experience shining plastics with a heat gun? I saw it on Youtube and it seemed to work well. The other option is to try get some 1500 paper and then buff up with Novus 1 -2 -3 plastic polish or Mother's plastic polish?

It can be done , loads of work and time involved , polishing plastics can be tricky and as Mauser said be carefull with the heat gun ( take your time dont rush it ).

Has anyone on here gone with the polish route and how did it come out?

I have the original set of plastics sitting in the garage , i was going to bin them but then after cleaning them realized that they are not that bad ( the scratches are not deep ) , decided to keep them as spare and one day i am going to try polish them , my brother in law does car polishing and he thinks it can be done . ( using fine sandpaper to get rid of the scratches and then using 3M paint polish to give it some shine ) . Will let you know the results when done but it might take a while .
