Rod bearing on my 2001 seized ,tore down motor and found brass shavings everywhere.Thrust rod washer was chewed and seized the rod.Any idea on what caused the problem. Was in 2 gear & not really on it when it seized.

"Any idea on what caused the problem?"

Age, plus that the early years apparently had different/not so good thrust washers.
Depending on how "on it" you ride you may consider a Falicon rod for your rebuild.

Falicon does (as far as I know) rods only.
You'll find all at xrsonly.com, they even could do the work required - which, if you're in the US may not be a bad idea.

Any non-std parts you find by measuring, however I'll admit that's easier then you've got the std parts also. Plain good looking should tell you quite a bit though - but, that assumes you know what to look for.
