Can I use dot 3 brake fluid in the rear brake?

Will work fine just make sure you get all the DOT 4 out, why would you use 3 when 4 is the norm ?....it won't handle high temps as well ?.

Well I put on some sm rims and the rotor was a bit thicker so I bled some fluid and all I have was 3 and I wanted to ride but I just bought some 4
