Looking to buy my first BRP... a few questions
Hey guys,
I just went and looked at a 2003 Xrr.
I want to use this as a dual sport and know it is less than ideal for road use.
The bike ran great mechanically, tons of power... big gun header, supertrapp pipe, stage 2 hot cams but I believe the bike isn't uncorked yet and still has stock carb.
Anyways the issue with the bike is the electrical, it has a really crappy dual sport kit on it (not baja designs) with a aftermarket digital speedometer (not vapour). All of the electrical has issues, the blinkers don't really work, kill switch doesn't work... it is all very sporadic... sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.
The wiring looks very poorly done... should I just assume this is a wiring issue? Or could it be the stator isn't giving enough juice to run the electrical?
I'm kind of thinking I should offer him a lower amount and start off from scratch with a baja desgins kit and vapor speedometer.
What do you think?
Also this is pretty funny but I couldn't even manage to kick the bike over... I cycled it a few times, found TDC and put all of my weight (180lbs) into it and the thing didn't budge... the owner could barely start it and he was closer to 300lbs... thoughts?

You have a de-compressor lever to start the bike, when she is just about at TDC you pull the lever in and nudge her slightly over TDC with the kick start, release the de-compressor lever and follow through with a steady full kick, I can start mine in slippers and people have even done these bikes in bare feet.....
I would personnaly buy a UK/European loom and stator and just sway your messed up loom you will have everything you need, grab a headlight and indictors etc and plug in. You will need the switch gear, kill switch, horn, rectifier/regulator and flasher unit but most of this will come with the loom.
My piggy is a US import and I converted mine to this spec for a short while now I am back to basics and running stock loom and plastic headlight etc.

Funny almost always people talk about 'TDC' when they mean 'the hard spot'.... which is waaaaayyyyy before TDC!
If one would position a single in TDC, then ease it past a bit & then kick it it would do absolute zilch, my bock on a clock!
The hard spot is when the piston starts to compress the charge, ie at the beginning of the upstroke before the ignition-TDC. Ease it a bit past (lower the kickstarter say an inch with the aid of the decompressor), then let the kickstarter come up again and release the decomp lever, then whack it down... it'll start!

if the bike has a big gun ex + a stage2 cam, id say it would have been uncorked, otherwise it would run extremely poorly, like a... strangled cat

Are your running the stock stator?
If the headlight output very bright or semi weak at 3000 rpm?
Did you check your grounding points?
