uncorked??? Empty uncorked???

Post  Guest Sun Aug 10, 2014 12:04 am

I started this subject in my intro to this forum and thought I should continue here. I believe the exhaust has been opened up with the competition tip from Honda because there is no baffle in the exhaust and nothing has been cut. I'm the 3rd owner. #2 knew nothing about any mods so I've got to figure this out, hopefully with the experts here. The bike runs well, but I've only run around an asphalt parking lot where I bought the bike. It sounded good, ran well. I got it home and the air filter needed attention, so I haven't rode it yet(dust in airbox). I pulled the main jet and it says 145rd. I've read that uncorked bikes run 168-175 mains so is it a good guess that only the exhaust tip has been changed. Is 145RD the stock jet? Appreciate your input.

Today I removed the carb and the manifold has no restriction. I haven't opened up the carb yet because my new jets won't be here for a couple more days. I can't find anything about a 145RD main jet. I've seen where the stock jet was referred to as a 112 and a 125, but google hasn't been any accurate, definite help. Hopefully someone here that has uncorked their bike will remember what was in their xr650r.

Thanks,
Greg

The standard main jet here in OZ is 112, after UNCORKING by the dealer the main jet is now 175, pilot jet 68s (the standard pilot was 65s) and the needle is B53E set to 3rd clip groove. Most of my riding is at sea level or very close to, if your riding in higher altitude that would probably require a different main jet , better to talk to the experts about that.

145 (and 112!) main is way too small, the poor piggie does not enough to eat!
Check if the TWO plastic plugs/knockouts are removed from the airbox? Top left seen from side...
Sidepanel has holes in for air, with some mesh? If so your main jet has to be bigger (say 170/175) than when not (say a 165).
The hole in the rubber manifold should be round, not a vertical slit - but this seems to be the case.
Jets as per above-mentioned for sealevel, a smaller main for higher up (keep the 68s for up to ~1500m HASL).
If the exh.tip has a hole of around 50mm (2") then it is 'uncorked' already, if not drill it out.
Check if the plug is the correct one - too warm is dangerous, too cold will foul up too quick.
Start with new oil and clean the mesh filter in the downtube then too.
Also, new coolant is always good to have, and cheap enough.
If it pissed fuel then leant over on the sidestand increase the float level to 19mm (from the correct 18mm as per manual).
This bike being new to you, remove the chain adjuster bolts (in the swinger) and remount with plenty copper-past/anti-seize compound, and keep this stuff there at all times.
Enjoy this bike, it's a cracker.... especially when it gets the correct qty of fuel, you've not felt how it rides it with that!!!
