My Xrr
Well i couldn't decide where to start this so i chose here as i think most ppl read the topics as there are pics and we all love pics
Anywhoo , I am starting the rebuild on my motor top and bottom end .I shall be pulling the motor this sunday and then shipping it 1000 kms to get the best of the best to do the rebuild ,Nick Dole at Teknik Motorsports.
The man is responsible for building the xrr Australian Safari bikes back in mid 2000's Very smart man on these bikes and he does this for a living ,i am a construction worker and back yard mechanic so i would rather send it to a man to do the work than me dicking around
so wait for the pics and the progress of my rebuild , i drained the oil yesterday as i have not started the bike for 4 months as i can feel it getting close to a problem ,90,000 plus kms on this motor .well i drained the oil and nothing IE no metal no brass no nothing just oil
So it seems i will not be up for to much just new rod and bearings and normal top end gear
ill drop a few pics in for now just to show the bike and how its changed over the yrs
mines the red 1
when i started playing with fairings
was ok stage but i wasnt happy
she stayed like this for a yr or so
then i hit a tree at around 70 kms per hr
i built her back to this
she stayed like this for a yr or so
now she's morphing to this
to look like this with her street tank and wheels
ATM im happy and will be more so with a fresh motor
Keeps ya's posted

Re: My Xrr
After you posted up the pictures of your lighting setup on my post, I now understand why you like the fairings so good. It's a good place to hide all the wires.

Re: My Xrr
yes very true , i have heated grips ,gps ,12v socket, trail tec dash , fuze box ,and battery, and an elec start to put on when i get my motor rebuilt , all this adds lots of wires and you need a place to hide it all

Re: My Xrr
Are the heated grips really worth it? It just seems like if it's cold enough to use them it's just too cold for the rest of ya. I've rode my bike at 25F and my face and feet were so cold I swore I'd never do it again.

Will be watching this closely..
Be nice if you could get pics of the cylinder/ ring wear and other items to show how much or little the 90klms has worn them.

Re: My Xrr
yes mate i will be asking to get pics done and i want to know the measurements on all replaced parts
i have got the motor ready to get lifted out , just waiting on the swingarm bolt to get undone and me and a mate will pull it this week and ill send it of this week or early nxt week
here are some pics of the intake , and no is not a crack its a cast mark and we all have them
this shows us not much but i wanted to see if i could see the backs of the valves , seems good to my untrained eye

1st of many...
Looks like the filter's been doing its job.
I reckon it'll be amazing after Nick's been through it.

Re: My Xrr
yea i hope he takes pics for me , ya know i was worried about the filters and dust in the box , i wipe grease round the seal of the cover and i wipe grease inside the box all over it , thin .It seems to have worked , im not anal about my bike but i do regular maintenance and i keep a log book of all the things i do and how many km's at the time
its good to have it for reference , it will be interesting to see how it changes from a fresh motor , the bike pulled 50+ hp with 40 something ft pound , not long b4 i stopped riding it .I stopped riding it coz at idle i cold hear chain slap and the bike would almost stall or most of the time it would .
so from discussions with friends we came to the conclusion timing chain has stretch and no longer in spec , time to stop riding it and get it sorted ,at the same time as it has big kms on it why not rebuild it OEM and get another 90K out of it
hence here we go

Re: My Xrr
Sean,
have missed this thread thus far, dunno why.
That intake looks really surprisingly well for all those miles, hell, even the exhaust does... but for the white valves! That's really white, or veryvery light grey? If so then jet up a bit mate (on the main jet, or drop the clip a click), too lean ain't good - especially not now with all new & shiny again.
But then again, maybe you have funny fuel overthere, got alcohol in it? Not familiar with the colours if so, you may know.
Anyway, good to hear the motor's good to go again!

Re: My Xrr
They looked a little white to me also, mine are black up the exhaust stems in the ports. What color was the plug? Would leaded fuel cause that level of white, when I run leaded race gas I get white build up in the exhaust system and I have to assume up the valve stems.

Re: My Xrr
I feel for you Sean....I really do, my bikes are my only enjoyment outside my family...I don't spend anything on myself just the bikes, to have someone work on it and constantly lie about stuff must be hard going. Maybe when its back home you can fill us in and we can ward off others from using this dick head.
