Question for the suspension guru's
So i have been playing with my settings today , to find out few things , the front is making little bit off klunking noise ( not loud just very quiet , but noticeable ) it was completely silent before the rebuild , i dont think its something serious just wondering what others bikes sound like when you apply front brake in the garage and just rock the bike forward and back .
And now the big one , -
the rear shock i have tryed to change the settings with the clicker/ adjuster , there are two one at the top where the bladder lives and one at the bottom of the shock near where the shock is attached to the swingarm , now when i changed the settings at the top clicker there was no difference at all ( as far as i can tell by pushing the bike down by hand ) i went from the hardest possible setting ( screw/clicker all the way out ) and all the way to the softest setting without feeling any difference . I think that my adjuster is fecked , when i tryed the bottom clicker it made very noticeable difference , and just for the fun i went all the way to the hardest setting to find out that it was capable of completely stiffening/locking the rear , it was rock sollid and felt like a bicycle with no suspension , that proved the clicker works and it makes difference when adjusted , unlike the top one which did nothing , so i am right about it being broken ? I am sure it did made difference before the rebuild ( its been a long time since i have messed with it ) .
I think if i tighten it all the way in ( hardest setting ) it should basicaly lock the suspension ( turn it nearly rock solid ) but it does not want to do that so i think the suspension guy had sexed it and i need to sent it back to him
Mind the bike feels good to ride and the suspension works really well the way its adjusted , the only thing is that i cannot change it if i wanted to as the top clicker does nothing

I had my suspension rebuilt about a month ago and i had the exact same issue, i thought the upper clicker (compression) was screwed up because i could screw it all the way in press on the tail and it felt like it didn't change at all. I went back to the suspension guy and asked him what the deal was. He said the shim stack is speed sensitive and position sensitive on the stroke of the shock so when the bike is sitting there with no weight on it its in the soft slow speed section and no amount of compression adjuster will make that go away. To really see the difference you need to adjust the compression and then go ride it. It will feel all soft just sitting there but when you hit a big pot hole at 40mph i guarantee it wont feel soft. To compare i had Master_E's bike next to mine and our rear suspension feels identical. I am still running the stock rear coil but am thinking of going up to a 10kg, Master_E is running this spring and it definitely helps lighten up the front end when you whack it. I did respring the front for the big tank and 175lb rider and that helped a lot.

I am leaving it in the middle position untill some more riding and then change it if i feel the need .

Front .45kg springs
compression 12 clicks from full in
rebound 9 clicks from full in
we are also running 13-47 gearing. This seems to run pretty good.

I have to confirm that the suspension works indeed , what felt too soft in the garage ended up kicking my backside out in the dirt , so i need to soften it down a bit , its a trial and error learning process , and i must say that the bike feels totaly different with the rebuild suspension , its kind of hard to explain dare i say like a KTM

I agree, new suspension completely changed the feel of the bike, it feels lighter on it feet now.

It took me a while but I finally bit the bullet and had my shock rebuilt on the 650. It made such a big difference that suspension was the very first thing I did to the 450 I'm building. Before I have even ridden the bike I took the shock and forks in for valving, springing and a service. Little did I know the engine was funky...
Just carry a little screw driver with you while riding and stop and tweak the adjustments mid ride. I liked going from one extreme to the other getting a solid understanding of what that little screw is going to do to me. It's one thing to understand mechanically what its doing to the suspension and quite another to understand how it is affecting your ride. You cant really hurt anything, so I say tune away. Just take note of how many clicks in or out you are and have fun.
And FYI, Hefty bags are totally IN this year!
