Rear Fender Brace Empty Rear Fender Brace

I didn't have any major plans today so I fabbed up a $4 rear fender brace. The main purpose of this brace is to support my Giant Loop & gear for long trips!

I started with a piece of 3/4" stock measuring 14" in length. I made a mark at 4" from the ends leaving 6" in the middle.

Using a torch I warmed up the metal and started my bends.

Perfect fit!

I used a piece of paper as a template to come up with the twist idea.

I love it when a plan comes together.

I chose the minimalist approach using 1/2" square tubing but have confidence this will be enough to support my luggage adequately (almost said erotically...Gotta love spell check).

It'll go something like this...The other piece of metal is part of the Baja Designs rear taillight support. The most costly part of this job was hiring the hand model.

The lower mounts were harder to make. I used some paper as a template to keep me pointed in the right direction.

With the tabs fabbed and in place I wedged the square tubing into position...Ready for some tack welds.

For the next phase I turned to my trusty welders Hodakaguy & his Dad who happened to be welding on their project (Click Here) across the street.

The final welds connecting my brace to the Baja Designs brace...Looking good I must say!

What's next is to mount the Giant Loop and camp gear to see if I need/want any mounting loops for straps & bungee hooks. Once that's settled I'll clean up the craftsmanship and powder coat this baby! BRP smile

I wanna be your neighbor! Between your brace work & looking at Hodaka's TW thread, figure your street must be the Pasco/Kennewick bike fab center central!

Nice stuff nice

I don't stand a chance against his machining.

Too much Corona and Tacos , we are not recommend this at all
that would be crazy
but it will do 220 standing there not moving, the shear strength of the OEM bolts is 270LBs so we were close
it is a very strong rack though , should be able to do a 12 pack with out any issues
Racks are funny that way , cant control what they put on them so we always say dont put anything on them , they are just for looks Very Happy

Rear Fender Brace Empty I Use Jerry's

Post  Guest Wed Nov 30, 2011 1:54 am

IF you know much about the history of dirt bikes in So Cal then you know Jerry at Fourstrokeworks.biz. I use his rear fender brace and have been talking to him about creating a jig for a matching subframe also out of stainless.

Rear Fender Brace Empty My copied brace

Post  Guest Fri Nov 07, 2014 5:57 am

I copied this aluminum brace
Rear Fender Brace %2701%20XR650R%20Rr%20Fender%20Brace%20007-L

I made it out of 3/4" steel.  Here's the completed piece
Rear Fender Brace %2701%20XR650R%20Rr%20Fender%20Brace%20005-L

Pics at different angles
Rear Fender Brace %2701%20XR650R%20Rr%20Fender%20Brace%20001-L
Rear Fender Brace %2701%20XR650R%20Rr%20Fender%20Brace%20004-L
Rear Fender Brace %2701%20XR650R%20Rr%20Fender%20Brace%20003-L
Rear Fender Brace %2701%20XR650R%20Rr%20Fender%20Brace%20002-L

Mounted under the fender
Rear Fender Brace %2701%20XR650R%20Rr%20Fender%20Brace%20006-L

Not pictured is that the fender is bolted to the top of the tail end of the brace.

This brace strengthens things up quite a lot.  There is no flex or give in the fender with this unit bolted up.
