xr camshaft question

Post  ustin95 on Wed Mar 11, 2015 1:10 am

so i have my cam out of my motor. the previous owner told me the bike had a aftermarket cam in the bike the camshaft has no marking on it. so i decided to measure the cam lift .i got o.299" on the intake and the same on the exhaust. oem cam lift is supposed to be intake .374"lift exhaust .375"lift stage one cam intake.365" exhaust lift .362" and stage 2 intake 0.376"lift exhaust 0.374". # don't really make sens, measured the cam 5 times got the same measurements all the time. any one got any ides?

He's ustin, 95 years old and Just forgot the to type a J Bump

Ustin, if there's a decompression system on the exhaust side then 10 to 1 it is the std cam.... as no aftermarket or hot can has this on but for the HRC-cam..... which is what you would like to have I'm sure but know they're rarer than Hen's teeth.

If a std cam is reground the decomp-system is taken off as it will interfere (the base circle has become smaller of the lobes but not of the decomp system, hope that makes sense).
As I said, only the HRC-cam (rare..) has a decomp system on, so if yours is not a std cam it's an HRC - happy riding in that case BRP smile

Ustin,

I think you're confused - you're after cam lift?
Valve lift I know, and it's measured at the valves of course - not on the camshaft. You'd need special equipment to measure lobe height (= rocker lift) anyway, and keep in mind that when measuring valve lift one needs to set a certain clearance first normally.
