What life can I expect from a WRP Gold Professional O Ring Racing Chain? Mine is totally shagged after 5000 miles. Mainly road use with some gentle trails.

I know the XR is going to be hard on the chain, but I've kept it clean and lubed and was expecting it to last a bit longer.

I've got a Supersprox rear sprocket and that still seems to be ok. I know you should replace chain & sprockets as a set, but there really doesn't seem to be hardly any wear and I feel like I'd be ditching a perfectly good, reasonably expensive sprocket for no reason.

What's the feeling on WRP Gold Professional O Ring Racing Chain or DID Gold heavy duty VX2 X-ring?

The DID x ring chain is by far the longest lasting chain I have used. I only use the XR for trail riding so the chain is usually full of mud after the first mile. I use steel sprockets changing both with the chain but also change the front again about half way through when it start to hook. Shop around as there are big differences in prices of DID chains between retailers especially when you include postage.
Your call on the supersprocket but unless money is really tight I would replace it with a normal steel one when changing the chain.

I'm a D.I.D man but I agree with you on sprockets, no form wear then leave it and save the money.....Smile I chug around the lanes in 5th at 20mph and my chain seems good as new BRP smile

The rear sprocket, is that an aluminium one?
If so - they don't last, and when they go/wear they take the chain with.
Conversely the same is true, a worn chain will scroo the sprockets..... so on your head it be renewing the chain only.

Mind, this goes for any sprockets, steel also.... Bump

DID all the way and I'm not scared of the clip joiner, just replace it regularly and don't put it on backwards.

Keeping the grit out and not having it too tight. Time and time again I see bikes with chains that are way too tight. I learnt the hard way, rushed the job of adjusting the chain years ago on my beloved CR500, made it too tight and it destroyed the bearing behind the front sprocket. Gearbox seized at full power in 4th gear... Bits of metal all through the gearbox and no money left in the wallet after that lesson. doh

I wouldn't put those extra hard sprockets on the countershaft, normal steel ones be the way to go. The really hard ones will wear out the countershaft and I'd rather replace 10 sprockets...
