Hi to all,

My name is Antoon and I live in Holland (the Netherlands), 45 years old, married and a daughter of 10.

Long time ago, when I was still young, I owned a XR500S and two XL500R's. Then came many years without motorcycle.
Maybe it's the midlife crisis kicking in early, but I felt like I wanted to drive on two wheels again so I started searching. First I looked at an XL/XR600 and then I discovered the 650 Very Happy

I found this 2000 XR650R with just over 5000Km on it.
The previous owner converted it from an enduro to a super motard, using nice parts. But because he almost never drove the bike, he decided to sell the bike after 7 years.
It has a LeoVince exhaust, Excel wheels, Braking brakes and Fat Bar steer. It looks like it has the original carb. and I assume that the rest of the engine is also original.

Most of the time I will use it for commuting as off-road use over here is almost not possible anymore Sad

I will read the forum to learn about the bike and now and then I will ask a (stupid) question Wink

45?
Nog een jochie dus.... Wink
And, dunno if you've bribed Mauser? Because he's ut-ter-ly quiet about "Pictures! Pictures! Pictures! " like he habitually does, so.... BRP smile
For those who are wondering why the Dutch always convert to supermotards, there's no dirt left there, all's tarred!
AndToon, it's impossible to post stupid Q's here, we've all thought we did at one stage Bump

Zoro,
was just wondering why you want to visit the Netherlands - because of de grachten or de wallen (biiiiig difference!), or perhaps for de koffiekroegen? Bump
Whatever though, you should go, fun galore. And, if you're a bit like the average ozzi (which tend to be hooligans) then you're going to loooove it there, you simply won't leave.... oh wait, yeah you will, you'll hanker after a real dirty weekend after a while, knobblies are addictive Cool

Well well....... Thanks for the warm welcome!

@Zorro: You're always welcome. Just as BuRP I'm also curious what in Holland attracts you. I suspect it isn't for our tulips, wooden shoos and wind mills Wink
@ Mauser: Pics are below Very Happy
@BuRP: Haha.... I knew that Dutch is still spoken in SA, but it looks like you know Holland very well Wink

In the eastern en southern part of Holland we still have some unpaved roads, but off roading in untouched nature is impossible over here (combination of green politics barf  and overpopulation).

I just received my K&N oil filters and original spark plug. Now I have to figure out what oil to buy so I can start with fresh fluids.
Then I need a new front tire because this one is made of chewing gum and not for highway use shrug
I also urgently need turn lights to make it road legal. I have the original ones, but the mounts are grinded of the bike, so I have to come up with something. I'm going to look for the smallest LED's that I can find. Any ideas?

Next step is to buy a Trail Tech Vapor or equal. The current speedometer is from a bicycle and the original speedometer doesn't work anymore because of the non-original wheels.

I have the bike for one week now and I drove it to work for four times. The place I work is 32 Km from home. A big part I can drive local roads, a small part I have to take the highway, but that seems fine with this bike. 100 to 120 Km/h is no problem.
Luckily I start early (7 am) so when I drive to the office, the police still sleeps. In the afternoon, on my way back, I have to drive a bit more carefull Cool .

I didn't make pictures yet, so below are the pics from the advertisement that I bought the bike from:

Toontje,

Geemigreerde Arnhemmer hiero, so your country has few secrets for me Cool
Nice bike, and a Vapor will give you all you need, even temperature. Don't mount it hard on the top-triple though, it will vibrate to pieces in 10 minutes.... ask me, done it twice. Mount it to the plastic or why, and note that TT's aluminium cradle does not protect it from the vib's (mine sits in one).
LED indicator wise, better test first if the relay will work with them, if not then you'd need a special relay also.
Your bike in that country is one of the very rare one's who may make do with a K&N filter, but know that these let fine dust through.... so no offroad for you! (Edited: If you were wondering there's zero dust in Holland, it's way too wet and there's no rocks either)
Oilwise, Shell Helix Ultra (or whatever your local equivalent is, the most expensive Helix, grey can) is a fine oil indeed, 5W40 and a real synthetic. Keep it in for 2500Km's and then replace it, with filter of course. You'd do well though to check/clean both screens, the one in the frame's downtube would be the one I'd check before riding it actually - so there's your Saturday screwed up! Bump

Looking at that front tyre again.... what the hell is that?
Maybe the previous owner used the bike as a pacemaker for on wooden planked cycledromes, to train his Tour de France buddies? Shocked
Get rid of it but tell us the brand & type here..... so we all can avoid it when buying via the net! Bump

(A later edition: a Pirelli Scorpion really sits well on tar, my F800GS leans like a supersport with them. They look a bit offroadish (they are in fact) so this may be your taste, go have a look I'd say. Oh, yeah, they're tube types)

@BuRP: I live in the middle of the Netherlands (within the triangle Amsterdam, Utrecht, Amersfoort) so Arnhem is still an hour drive for me.......

The front tire is a Dunlop Radial KR191 125/80R17 racing rain tire
On the tire it also sais "Not for highway use".
The rubber of the tire is so soft that it sticks to the road in any weather condition, but it wears out fast (in fact it's almost gone already).

The rear tire is a Michelin Pilot Power 2CT 160/60ZR17.
He gave me another almost new Michelin rear tire with the bike, so that's why I was thinking to buy a Michelin front tire as well.......
I'm not sure about the size yet...... 120/70R17 is a common size, 120/65R17 a much less common size.
I will buy my tire from http://www.motorbandenmarkt.nl They have a lot of choice and I think their prises are OK.

@Mauser: I'm not sure what you mean with that. I have the original headlight with the bike. It's much bigger than the one mounted now and personally I think this looks OK.
I only have to check the bulp as currently only the high beam works........

Toontje,

Mauser was a bit dislek../deslyxe../dysfunc.. he could not spell correctly, he meant 'dibs' - which is slang for "gimme the first option to poach this off you you bugger" kinda thing BRP smile BRP smile
Seriously though, he wants an original headlight assy, so if you have one and want to part with it (why not, it's a useless thing anyway) then he's just across the waters - and, with the news I heard the Pound Sterling is skyhigh today, our Rand is worthless in comparison now mad as heck
