I just picked up an 2001 last weekend - first time 'dirt biker', long time 'street biker'.  Rode Supermotos a few times and now I'm kinda hooked - but amd also considering the 'adventure bike' route...  my bike came with both 17" and the stock dirt wheels, so I have a launching point.  Looking forward to diving into the wealth of information on the site.....    I'm sure I'll be asking plenty of questions too!

I tried up loading a photo but the image loads upside down Sad

Im still working on jetting but am getting close the surging had now gone away, but under full throttle still little power loss. What altitude are you at and any info on the bike will help.

I'm not sure on the jetting as I haven't pulled the carb yet... I may do that in the next few days - I live at 1200 ft but am at the base of the Angeles National Forest in SoCal which can get up to 10,064 ft- My XR is uncorked - Stock carb (not sure on jetting yet) - stock exhausted drilled out - airbox opened up - emission pulled off (Cali bike) -

I get surging at low RPMs - mostly at a constant, steady throttle or slight deceleration - From what I have read so far Im guessing its running too rich could this be right?
