Re: She Lives 2018
I had the pleasure of riding my bike corked just 1 time only, the test ride at the dealer. I said to the salesman you must be kidding me, my old xr500 would out run this piece of junk, then he revealed the magic of uncorking which they promptly took care of before i went back to pick it up. Mine is still stock except for the uncorking. Carby, airbox, exhaust, ignition all boring stock , damn i must be a boring old fart.

And i know you are just itching to know, back in 2004 the price of a new XR650R here was $9500.00 Oz Dollars. That would be U Type, blinkers,stop/tail light, speedo, high/low beam headlight and horn. And 12 months Gov. Registration, i think you might call it road tax or tax stamp or something like that. Uncorked and ready to go, oh and do not forget that wonderful 15/41 gearing which to this day i still run, still original chain and sprockets. They just never seem to wear out, top speed 185 KMH, 115 MPH on a good day if you only had light breakfast and low fat milk in the coffee. Yeah you gotta love XR ‘s

Mine as you can see just has a few mods....fender bag, Honda LCD trip meter (hens teeth) sump, frame & hand guards, case saver....and thats about it....still stock US loom; no horn, brake lights, mainbeam just the stock headlight with a 10watt bulb fitted and the 3.2watt tail light and the kill switch
I did convert her to UK/EU lighting a few years back but prefer her stock bad attitude trim now...F*** the Police

1981/1982 XR’ s were legal (only just) for on road use here in the same configuration that you have, fixed beam head light, tail light with no brake light and at least 1 mirror. 1983 onwards had to have all the street legal bits as standard. But there was no such thing as Corking or detuning carbys and tall gearing for all this tree hugging greeny crap until the XR 650 came along, the main jet fitted here was i think a # 112 from memory, what a sick joke that was. No need to tell you what that was like with 15/41 gearing, yehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh feel that grunt, NOT.

13/54 struth you would probably do a standing start in 3rd and climb a cliff in top gear. Hanging for a ride here but the weather has been TOTAL SHITE The XR is due an oil change and filter, might try to get in a quick half hour sprint in between cyclones and storms to warm it up and dump the oil, at least i may not feel so guilty about not kicking it over
