The second test revealed that i needed a little more storage for inner tubes / raincoat and some other small stuff.

I searched on the interweb and found a interesting DIY solution : horsebags

Scored a second hand one and :

Leo,

do yourself a favour, and google 'Giant Loop'.
You'll find them in 3 sizes, U-shaped bags which tie onto the back of the bike.
Stay away from the biggest as it's really voluminous, and the smallest one is for day tripping I think.
This stuff is of superb quality, you'll not regret getting any of these products.
Horses are for courses, your bike won't eat hay hmm? razz

Thanks for the tip but this trip is to find out if i am that ( future ) globetrotter or not.

If not i don`t want a pile of expensive stuff laying around that i must sell for half the new price.
That`s why everything about this trip is a very low budget / DIY so i f i must sell my loss will be small.

If it turns out that i am the new Sjaak R1 Wink  than i will asap buy the real good stuff and the next trip will be driving the TET

The Alps in the Summer are something special. Did the Col Du Parpaillon and Monte Jafferau last year. Even saw a couple of Pan Europeans coming down the Col Du Parpaillon!! F***ing nutters!.

I had almost that experience on assiette kammstrasse.

Thought i was doing a great impression of Jeffrey Herlings and suddenly at blind corner number x i almost drove straight into a :

He was going to the top picking up another motorcyclist i just past at......... 2000 meters high

On the parpaillon two 1200GSA with alu panniers / topcase came down and the first one told me to stop  Shocked .
Took off his helmet and in his best french / english he told me that he had the same bike !!
Told him that my big bike was a 1150GSA but i thought it would be to heavy for this trip so i left it at home.
thats funny

I am not a person who has great social skills in public but when you are alone on a bike everybody talks to you and wants to know where you coming from and going to. Have met the nicest people this way.

Last day i first was planning to drive 550km back to holland and sleep on a camping and do the other 550km the other day. Because i started at 06:00 i was on that camping by 13:00 and then i made the decision to drive further back to Holland as long i felt good. I stranded 30km before home with all 6 bolts from the back sprocket missing driving 120km an our on the fast lane. No spare bolts with me off cours. Took the 2 tiny bolts of my license plate and tried to make i to the next exit.............

Almost made it ....

After telling the story they let me drive home and i made it.
The hub now has 6 oval holes and is lost.
I did not torq or check once in a while the whole bike if something was not ok.
Expensive lesson.

Traveling by motor is great and i plan to make much more trips in the future but for long distance i take the beemer and do light offroad.

Ag forkit man, you had a great holiday!
The XXR does not have a cush hub (no rubber blocks inbetween sprockets & hub) so torquing with perhaps some nutlock is the way to go - which you know now, so next trip!

All those passes you mention, is that unpaved, or tracks maybe?

The motorholiday of my life.  cheers
Was used to drive in groups but from now on i prefer to make my own decisions where and when to stop and what to see.

Yep. Learned the hard way.
Contacted Haan Wheels and a cush hub will cost about 250 Euro.

BuRP wrote:All those passes you mention, is that unpaved, or tracks maybe?
I drove over paved passes to Briancon where i stayed a week and drove paved an unpaved passes.
I used this website to see where the unpaved passes where : http://alpenrouten.de
I used this website to see where the paved passes where : link

I use a GPS called "Tripy II " and had to make my own tracks in .trp format.

Two tips:
Assietta kammstrasse : start in Bardonecchia if you prefer offroad climbing over descending.

Tunnel du Parpillion :  first don`t wait to long because they plan to close the tunnel and second start at Barcelonette side if you prefer offroad climbing over descending.

Tips for the XR on longer trips i learned from this trip :
- cush hub Embarassed Embarassed
- 15 tooth in front ( Europe mainland comes with 14 ) will allow highway use and gives 1:19.
Back i used 48 and had not change the chain.
- Don`t use E10 on high altitude.
- You have never the perfect tire for the job on a on / offroad trip. So i took the cheapest ( Kenda K270 ). Started with 14mm and ended after 3k with 6mm at the back with a whole lot of highway. Front looks like new Shocked

You don't need one, the XRR has a cush hub in the clutch basket, just get another std hub.

Thanks for the links, I'm glad I can read them - varnink, Zjerjman ist uusd! BRP smile

A second hand BRP wheel(set) is not likely to be found quickly in Europe but i try to find one first.

And than happened something unexpectedly.

While trying to sell my CRF450X i received an offer on the BRP ( stock version ) i could not resist.

This means that all the aftermarket items are for sale.

Try to find the "sales department" on this site otherwise i will post them here.

Welcome to the group of ex-owners (I'm not!) who had one, sold it, always will remember their Piggie fondly so they start pining, then try to find another one and almost always fail miserably.
Then next, the older they get the better their Pig was...

I've got two of 'em Leo, will never sell my 2007 model but will sell the 2nd one, a 2003 model, end of this year... and I also will ship anywhere Bump

This was my second BRP Cool

The moment i was looking for a RTW bike it passed and i bought it immediately knowing its potentials and it was 100% worth it.

After the trip i initially choose to keep the piggy and sell the CRF450X but then ......
