Tucson - Ironwood Forest/Ghost Town Ride 3/21/09

Howdy XR Guys:

This is not an epic ride report, or anything spectacular, but the gallery still has an XR650R in it (mine), warm weather shots in March and some interesting Sonoran Desert scenery.

Hopefully the gallery works! This is my first attempt at using SmugMug.

Cool, Dave. Nice pics.

My wife is all over me to move back to So Cal from Sonoma. We moved up here 4.5 years ago and lived in Napa for two years and now Sonoma for almost three. She really misses riding in the desert. Plus the River and the beaches and the warm winters. Which is funny becasue she's from Vermont/Upstate NY/Wisconsin. We moved up here because we didn't have kids. We'd been together for years without kids so we assumed no kids were in our future. So we sold this little ranch we had in San Diego and moved. 10 months after getting here we had one kid. Now we have two.

Seeing these photos makes me think she's correct ...

When folks think of Tucson, they often envision endless sand dunes, snakes and cacti. Of course, it's nothing like that at all.

Congrats on the kids! Life would not seem complete without raising some.

Man, what a rough choice! Sonoma is beautiful and SoCal (esp. San Diego) is awesome. I've got to go with your wife, though. Surf, great seafood, the best weather on the planet, excellent riding.... What more can one ask for Let me know when you move back so we can do a ride.

Being from LA, I love the Mex culture and food. I think that is one of the things I miss most. The Mex food up is terrible. The best you can get is off the trucks. And it's all desert Mex up here. Which is good. But I really love the jungle Mex with the sauteed bananas, banana leaf wrapped pork, and so forth. Me likey the Cha Cha Cha, so to speak. :~)

You're on with the ride. I feel like the thing is really mocing toward going back to So Cal somewhere, probably south OC, like San Clemente. Not that we can afford a house there ...

I hear you on the Mexican culture and food of LA. I grew up there, too, but there is no shortage of it here. There are some very good "Yucatan" style eateries around, as well. Man, that's some dang good stuff.

I'm getting hungry.
