A change in direction

Well I just finished building my first wheel to take my 650r from the dirt to the street. I bought the rear a few months back but couldn't find a front. So I took a rim I had for another bike and........



I think it turned out great for my first time starting with a rim, 650L hub and a bag of spokes and nipples. Dont worry about the sendor not being hooked up I got it covered.

i love the blue fork bootie on the pig...it would do great with a blue seat cover as well....retro style...

i was thinking of doing it to my pig....but the current seat cover still doing good...so i will just put the idea on hold...

So you just laced a 17" hoop onto a stock hub?

Been thinking about this for a cheap sumo fix for my bike lately. Any recommendations?

Thanks, it rained the entire time I was up their. I have had it out a few times since then and it handles great, my only complaint is the seat 160-170 miles of twisties and one or two stops makes for a long day. If you're just going to ride on the street lacing a stock hub is a cheap way to go. I have about $500 invested in the whole setup including tires. I used a 93 XR650L front hub that I ended up having to shim it with spacers. I need to get over to my fathers place and turn some proper spacers on the lathe for it but the clutch washers are working for now.

I went up to Lake Thomas A. Edison over this past weekend and had perfect weather. Great 12 miles of jeep trail to the end of the road. I highly recommend the trip. Saw bears and so much other wildlife, had a soak in Mono Hot Springs, went swimming in the river, etc. I feel ya' on the seat issue, though. I'm still suffering from a case of baboon butt.

Good to know on the sumo setup. Guess I'll start rounding up the parts.

I got lucky with the rear 4.25x17, found a guy on craigslist selling it for $150 plus I got a stock rear spring, 2 OEM filters, OEM levers, OEM oil pump gasket, OEM chain roller, OEM seat bolt and a Motomaster brake relocation braket. The front is from a guy in OZ got a smokin deal on a front 3.00x17 and rear 4.00x17 for $200 shipped they were from a XR400M. Tires are Shinko's and for as fast as I ride they work great, some will bag on them but if you ride at say 80% they fine. AR50racer (my brother in law) has Shinko's on his XX1100 and his 650R he has even ridden the XX in the rain & snow with them not on purpose and they stuck. He also fadded the front brake on his 650R with the Shinko's in some fast down hill twisties. You can pick them up cheap at Chaparral.
