What do you carry?

Post  modette on Fri Aug 21, 2009 12:23 am

The tool kit I put together for now.

From Left to Right:
Gauge Feelers
Needle Nose
Small Robo Grips
Zip Ties
12mm and 13mm wrench
Socket Extensions
Telescoping Magnetic Grabber with LED light on the end
Torx Bit (needed for skid plate)
90 degree Philips ratchet
Socket
Jointed socket
Alan Wrenches
8mm / 10mm wrench
Philips Screwdriver
Socket Set
Schwinn Bike pump
Leather Man

Bag of nuts, Electrical Tape, and other Misc stuff like spare Dakar bracket seeing as they had to send me a few more to get the correct one for the right side:

Pit Posse Off Road Tool Kit is coming, this is what it will look like:

Also not shown I am xeroxing the Dakar wiring diagram, and the Honda service manual wiring diagram and other important information to have on hand...never know when you will be stuck on a trail and need to do some wiring.

Man I sound like some long time adventure tourer...hahahaha Nah, just use common sense, and I know the type of riding you will be doing. I know what I will be doing (exploring the back country so that means few people to help me, but myself and if I do come across someone at least I have the information to maybe help to get things fixed).

Street Bikes I did the same, but not as drastic. Main thing with Street bikes and road trips is to have AAA Gold or some other good towing service. however it is always good to carry some basic things like tire repair kit, various wrench/sockets you typically use *shrug* Maybe this is why I can think through what I might need for dirt riding.

Future plans to carry:
Extra Tubes, Spark plugs, rim strips, clutch/brake levers

Anyways, what do you all carry???

Man, I want to ride with you! A top end rebuild might be accomplished with that tool assortment.

I need to get my chit together with tools, as not to die in the desert.

I've commonly got the following tools:

-Big azzz crescent wrench for the rear wheel and tire irons (doubles as a hammer).
-Multi-purpose tool (invaluable).
-Small Mt. Zefal pump, spare front tube and patch kit.
-A few bike specific allen wrenches and sockets.
-Spark plug socket.

Then, of course, there's all the other stuff... GPS, cell, credit card, food, water, lighter, pistol, tiny flashlight, spare headlight bulb, etc.

Too much stuff, or too little stuff. That is always the question.

Very similar stuff but I also carry.
8" tyre leavers
Puncture repair kit
CO2 canisters in addition to a hand pump.
21" tube
2 liters of water camelback type thing
2 liters of petrol if it is a new area
Pruning saw I bought a retractable one but recommend the draper expert folding one Fits behind the headlamp shroud. We have cut some huge trees with them and cleared the way.

.
I am now looking for a waist bag to shift some of the weight off my shoulders.
There is no way that I will fit a rear fender bag as I have had to step off the rear more times than I can remember and the thought brings tears to my eyes.
Many newbees ride without a plug spanner which can be a pain when the bike is waterlogged and if the plug is deep in a 4 stroke head.

If I was riding on tarmac I would carry nothing apart from a recovery and credit card.

What Team Honda Carried

Post  Bump on Sat Aug 22, 2009 5:21 am

They carried a product called QuikAluminum. Same folks also make QuikTitanium and QuikSteel. Not sure it's any better than JB. Just an FYI here.
