After a two day, 2000 k round trip to collect the XR, I finaly booted it into life yesterday afternoon for a brief squirt around the parents property. After spending about half an hour aboard and 30 seconds picking it up off the ground, there were a few things I noticed and thought I might get the opinion's of more seasoned owners cos Im pretty sure you guys may have had similar questions.

Firstly, the suspension. To be honest, I found it to soft. I know this is how it was meant to be and though it works fine, I prefer it firmer, as in 'enduro' firm I guess. I get the feeling a spring change may be in order, at least in the fork. If anyone would like to share theit setups, it would be much appreciated. I weigh in at about 180 lbs by the way.

Secondly, the front brake is an insult. Ive heard it was rubbish, but man.. Would swapping to a braided line instead of the current piece of garden hose sharpen this up?

Thirdly, not a bitch, but the only mods the previous owner performed was the old de-baffle and jetting so 90% of the original exhaust remains. Looking at the way the the header pipes reduce in size, Im guessing a full system in in order to realy let it breathe the way it should, sound about right?

Other than these petty gripes, Ive found the hype to be correct. Its a beast...

cheers

Maybe you are carrying to much outback survival beer for your pig to handle.

Switch to a oversized 280 mm up front. Stainless line would also help in addition to High temperature resistane brake fluid.

A fork brace is a big help.

Never mind stressing the pig, the quantity of refreshing ale necessary for merely overnight survival would buckle even the stout luggage system of a GS 1200.

Cheers for the linkys.
