Stator upgrade Empty Stator upgrade

Post  Guest Thu Dec 11, 2008 12:55 am

I put in a electrosport stator and found that when I start the bike, turn on the blinkers they stop working when I turn on the headlight and will work again when I rev the motor.
I put my stock stator back in and start the bike, turn on the blinkers and then the headlight and they both work at a idle.
Do these aftermarket stators put out less juice than a stock stator at an idle? I wasn't counting on reving my bike just to have working blinkers at stops.

The question is...could you turn on the blinkers and the light at idle before?

Yes, and as stated above I can again with the stock stator back in. The electrosport would work when I brought the revs up but the blinks would fade out at idle.

Sorry I missed that part. I would call Electrosport and ask for the voltage of their stator at 1000 rpm and then at 4000 rpm. They may even know how o correctthe issue.

Sorry I could not help.

What also happens is aftermarket stators are wound differently than stock. They generate different power levels at different RPMs. The curves are different. Said another way they may generate more at rev at the expense of less at idle. It's a function of number of windings vs. the gauge of wire as well as materials and the number of polls wound around.

I know with an Electrosport on my street ride that I have less available wattage at idle than the stock and have to be careful not to drain the battery if I leave some extra lights on. However at cruise RPM I have WAY more than stock and can run even more extras.
