Just bourght my XR650R, after a year with a very good KTM400EXC. The KTM was good, but the XR is unbeliveable. Only had it 5 days and I love it. I have had an XR600 and always wanted the big'un and I've got one now. So when I work out how to put a picture on here, I will (all the forums seem to be differant)

I've not ridden it with the Supper Moto set up yet. But I have taken it out on the trail, that was an eye opener after my last bike ( KTM 400 EXC). I was with 6 other KTM'ers 450's and 250's , and I managed to do everything they did. It would be a lot different in wet mud. The bike does not have the CRF450 front forks,last owner kept them, but it has got a Mikuni pumper carb and a Mud Plugger hot cam. I got a dino printout and it is pushing out 65 BHP at the rear wheel. It also has a Magura hydraulic clutch conversion (recommended). It is one of the best bikes I've ridden, I love big singles.

Here is my KTM, looking very muddy after a ride. I sold this to fund the XR (the wife can't understand why I would want more than one Bike, so it had to go)

Hi Rikco,
The forks in the top XR photo are Honda CRF450, but I only have the standard Honda forks, as in the bottom XR photo. It is the same bike, but the last owner kept the forks and fuel (gas) tank and some other bits.

I've looked at the CRF forks hoping for a plush front end. However there is a lot of advice that the original forks are fine they just need a bit of fettling.
Big hits have always been ok but riding up rocky climbs or collapsed stone walls has been a wrestling match.

I followed the advice in this site http://borynack.com/XR650R/xr650r_forks.htm.

Initially the results were fantastic but the forks started to stiffen again. Think I have sorted this now.

With the stiff forks keeping pace with the lighter bikes becomes tiring but the XR is such a great bike to trail ride that I find I am using it more and more instead of the 250 2 stroke that I also have. My bike is virtually standard apart from the Mikuni, fork mod and a load of mud. Nice to see another XR getting out there.

Hi Hew,
bit of confusion (caused by me) I have the bike as it is in the OFF road set up, but I allso have all the wheels and big disc etc. I don't have the forks. Having ridden out on the lanes of Devon last week, I found the front end OK. I will have to get the rear spring upgraded, I way 19 stone (266lbs) and it sags a lot when I sit on the bike I love it though.
