Hey guys

Figured Id stop in say hi. Been busy in refrigeration school so not much time to surf forums anymore. So far Im holding a 3.65 GPA. Pretty good for a 44 year old guy who wasnt sure school and a new career was the best thing to do.

Still have my BRP, havent sold it like I planned. Decided Id hang onto it instead of selling it, but I hate going to storage and seeing it just sitting there. Need to take it out to stretch its legs but right now finances wont allow it. Its sitting with no oil or fuel in it on a jackstand. Its my baby so parting with it would be a killer. After talking with my G/F she said when things get better Id be sorry I sold it and she didnt want to hear me bitch about selling it and bitch I wanted another one, I know she is right, so right now the BRP is being taken care of, just not taken out to raise hell.

My G/F made the comment one day that when I go riding she can see a change in my attitude, Im less stressed about life. Maybe she will get a raise and can pay for gas

Thanks for checking in, and congrats on that fine GPA!

Remember, we need you here in Tucson (and Phoenix). It was ~108degF here today, and something like 114 in Phoenix. The humidity is high, so swamp coolers barely work. I'm guessing the refrigeration guys are loving life, as far as dinero goes.

If you want to become depressed and irritable, sell that bike. I'm still looking around for a "new" one.

Ive survived Electrical theory and am now studying rectifier circuits and all the little circuits that keep a Frige cool and an Oven hot. Changing AC to DC and all that. Im better at the hands on rather than the reading part. Seems if I read it I dont understand it, if I can touch it I get it.

Sounds a lot like my experience with wildlife and fisheries science (ie. renewable natural resource management, measurement, etc.).

Trying to grasp population dynamics from a book was crazy stuff. Once in the field, it was a piece of cake (or crap, if dealing with scat samples).

When you get a chance, let us know exactly how those dang rectifiers work on our bikes.

Hey I know how you feel, I went through a five year apprenticship here in Colorado, through Denver pipfitters LOCAL 208, for HVAC/R service. Very hard and it takes a lot of time. Just remember it pays in the end and it is always in demand!!! I run service at Anheuser- Busch in Ft. Collins, believe me when I say never, never give up!!!!!! Keep up the good work!!! The piggy will ride again!!!

For Dave, the rectifier circuit changes AC to DC. So far all I know is summed up here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rectifier

When Current flows thru AC it changes polarity. The Diodes in the Rectifier circuit modify that change to keep it at DC. Think of AC power as a zig zag line. The upper zig changes as the lower zag forms so you end up with a graph that looks like a heart monitor from a hospital. The Diodes in a rectifier circuit take the zags and change them to zigs, therefore creating all zigs and creating a smooth DC power. Since current will only flow one way thru a Diode, a few placed just right will keep it at DC and make the DC current stronger. Thats all I understand so far

For Paddy, Yep its alot to learn. HVAC/R isnt a huge part of my class yet but it soon will be. In the fall my 2 instructors are going to slowly start adding HVAC/R to us. The reason for this is alot of refrigeration companys are going to heating and cooling repair as well as making sure an Ice Machine in a bar is working or a water cooling system in a hospital is working. That will mean a few classes Ill need in the future for a HVAC/R electrical license but it will open a few more doors.

Last week or 2 Class has been alot easier using the web for research. Before we were overloaded with info and didnt have time to surf for more info. I spend more time online looking at info and less time staring at a boring book. The book somtimes gives us a one sided reason why somthing happens, If you dont understand it in the book your screwed,If you look it up online, somebody on the web can explain it where it turns a light on in your head and makes sense.

I've gone through like 6 copies. I gave one to a friend in the Navy and he says it played for a year straight 24/7 somewhere on the ship.

Satellite sometimes has the HD version. I downloaded it once and watched it like 30 times before it somehow got deleted. The HD version on a 50" HD TV is the perfect Ride prep!

Do you have the DVD?

Word to that brother!! Watching those XR's rip across Baja was awesome, especially the beach scenes, sand whoops and Mouse McCoy rippin' through the dark of night

I'm embarrassed to say that the first several times I watched it I got goose bumps as the announcer / director says, "because Steve Hengeveld, the greatest night racer in the world, is flat out." Or words to that effect.

I've been fortunate enough to be in a few races, including the 1000. I can't imagine doing a buck on a dirt bike at night in Mexico. It's gotta be the gutsiest thing in the dirt bike world.

I took my test on Rectifier circuits and Solid State electronics used in the HVAC and Appliance world on Monday. I scored a 90%. There was 10 questions worth 10 points each. The question I missed was:

When testing a control pad, a technition has tools he can use to diagnose if the pad is faulty. Choose all the tools that apply from the following:

1. the "feel" method
2. A Matrix schematic
3. A volt/ohm meter
4. A special testor
5. "Drag" test

I chose 1, 3, and 4. The correct answer was 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Back to the books for me

Well, of course we all knew it was 2, 3, 4 and 5!

I was thinking about a microwave oven pad with the soft touch buttons. I thought hmmm if you press it and it doesnt move or doesnt command the appliance to do somthing then thats a tool for testing. I pleaded my case with the Instructor and he said nice try, next class Im rewording that question and answers. He said yes you can touch the pad and see it doesnt work BUT the customer who called you already ran the "feel" test and it didnt work, thats why they called you, the technition. Your the guy who has to go into a customers home and look like you were sent from God to fix the appliance. He said if you go in and tell a customer your going to run a "feel" test you might get slapped

Good thing my Instructor has a sense of humor.
