FINKE Desert Race

Hey all i Just got back from Alice springs in central Australia After Racing in the FINKE Desert race, wow !! what w wild weekend, 440 km of sand whoops and bulldust, but i had a Ball, and to say i finished and got my Railway Dog Pin trophy is a Big relief, 500 Bikes strated and about 350 finished, KTM Factory rider Ben Grabbham wasthe hot favour, on his sweet 505 KTM, he was going for his 4the consecutive win, but it was not to be this year, he blew his motor about 8 km from day 1 finish line, Toby Price his new team mate was 8 minutes behind him and took the lead, followed by about ten CRF 450s that are all factory backed,
The old Pig performed brillaintly all the way, running a 14 - 47 gearing was a little short, but i just made it a Little more rideable in the sand, most of the fast guys ran 15-47 or 45, so its pretty fast, but i am rapped to finish it on te old Girl and ill be back next year, hopefully on a CRF 450, i raced in class2 which is 451 cc and over and came in 24 out of 50 odd bikes so was happy with that, only Drama was a Quad bike rider who did not Understand that the chequered Flag means the race is over, and Ploughed into my side at 90 kmh after the finish line on Day 1, Smashed my clutch lever and perch and bent my bars, Also put a rippa dent in my swing arm, he had a Ambulance ride home with a wrist injury, we got the bike fixed for day 2 thankfully, crashed heavilly in thick bulldust that clogged my air filter 70 odd km from home, so was very underpowered for the rest of the trip, good old K-N Filter did not let any Muck thru at all, i was pretty relieved to see the finish line, after 2 days, we had the presentations at the casino the monday night afetr the race and we all got pretty Pissed and disordely, well worth the time and effort, Go look it up , Google Finke desert race
