oil level noob here

hey just got my xr650r and checked the oil after having it warm up for 5 mins and it was half way between the full and low line is this ok? or should i fix it before i ride this weekend.

Top it up and have a good ride  

I tend to set mine to an inch from the max mark to ensure it is never overfilled. It never needs a top up between changes which is great but some Pigs drink a lot of oil especially if there is a lot of high rpm work.
With yours being new to you I would top it up to just under the max mark and see how you go. Check after every ride to start with and you will soon get to know. As you have said always check the level straight after the bike has been running.

Can I add just a little of a different oil I have a ride today and can't make it to the dealer I have some Yama lube I use in my other bike

No problem if the oil is a similar grade.
