CUSH DRIVE

Hi, If you have seen my intro I have a modified 2000 that is set up for long adventure style touring and in Aus that can mean 3-4 days of long sealed road to get to some of the more remote country no matter how much you try to do the side roads. On recent trips the cush drive has come up as a problem all dirt bikes that have a fixed sprocket suffer , damage to the driveline usually the gear box , I have read some comments saying the xr has a cush in the box but this is not true. Having looked through all the manuals . I have been running a sprung roller type chain adjuster which takes some of the whip out of the chain but feel a cush hub would be a lot better . wondering if anyone knows of a hub, wheel that will fit off something else with a bit of modification , not into buying top dollar after market gear . I have made all my racks and a 11 ltr aux fuel tank up fitted thermos, a lithium battery wired up charge points ,led day running light, padded out the seat all from fairly cheap alternatives, hoping to do the same for this. any ideas welcome . Hi Wassie hope to get up that way possibly next winter starting to plan a trip to the cape will be talking more about this soon . Mauser thanks for the pic I'm taking it that is with the rivets drilled and the gear off , someone at a recent ride did say to me that it could be in the clutch ,now I know its there it helps but with it on that side of the motor it softens the blows between the crank and the gearbox not the wheel and the gearbox , this may be enough dampening to stop gearbox wear from long sealed road riding . Have you or anyone else had any problems with high road use , if not I won't have to do anything which suits me fine. CHEERS wattsie Ps hope your partner appreciates that tounge of yours

Yes drilled rivets....doesn't show these rubbers on any parts diagrams...maybe try the new rubber split link that Burps running

Don't worry too much about the wear in the gearbox as a good knobby like a d606 takes some of the shock from the big banger. A sticky road tyre would be way worse for wear and I've heard no one complaining from the mototards.

Great thanks guys that saves me a lot of messing around. I am running heidy k scouts front and back and they work well for sealed, gravel ,dry rocky clay and sand but no serious mud yet which I have a set of Dunlop knobbies waiting to use . CHEERS

I have just ordered a complete set of SM wheels from Motoxindustries with a cush hub. Jim has been extremely helpful and is building a set with a different front wheel for USD forks. I think they make their own hub but don't quote me on that. They might send you just a hub and that wouldn't be too expensive, tell Jim, Craig from NZ sent you.

Rubber split link.....you said always use this type for added safety and to save your cases

just remembered that these are commonly available in nz thru "nzmx parts", may be an aid reducing drive train wear
