Hey "Q",

It's the Trail Tech 8" Halogen..... nice

http://www.trailtech.net/1832-55-00.html

Backwoods' BRP - Page 2 3832-EX-00_w450

It also has the ballast plate mounted on top. Not required for the halogen, but it hides the back of the lamp, the wiring and makes a good spot for mounting up other switches.

The Desert IT is not a DOT approved tire.....

Most riders round here run non-dot tires, never heard of anyone getting hassled for it. Backwoods' BRP - Page 2 Policered

They ran stock hubs cause they weigh 110 and know how to miss stuff. I need better rims! Backwoods' BRP - Page 2 Affraid

Backwoods' BRP - Page 2 Empty Who is correct?

I was at precision Concepts one day several years ago and Johnny Campbell and Bob Bell were talking about this very thing-hence my posting it. They said the Honda rim was designed specifically to bend instead of breaking. You can buy stronger rims. In this case stronger is weaker because stronger means more brittle-the classic tradeoff in metallurgy.

So in this case, with a heavy bike that hauls ass, you want a rim that will take a huge hit and and absorb the energy by deforming rather than breaking. If Honda found something better in the marketplace they would use it. I have several parts off the team bikes and Ogilvie played with a lot of parts trying to make them better. I have an oversize brake rotor he had made up that requires working with a L caliper bracket. And I have a works air boot too.

I don't have firsthand knowledge but a vendor (the guy at ArcLevers) told me it costs them like $200K just to get Honda to evaluate their product for the racing teams. He said if the team requests it the process is shortcut but otherwise it takes forever.

So, to be clear, using aftermarket rims that are stronger makes your bike more vulnerable to catastrophic rim failure.

I hope that helps.
