Thinking of a swap...

So I've been kicking around the idea of swaping my forks out for some forks from a crf450. I'm told that the forks would be a huge improvement however... I am a cheap SOB and don't want to buy a "conversion kit" does anyone see a problem in just having my fork clamps machined to accept the new forks?? Thanks for your thoughts, Ben

You need to but the CRF fork clamps and a CRF wheel. I think you will also need the brake caliper.
There would be nothing left of the XR clamps if you bored them out for the crf forks.
You can do a lot to the XR forks to make them a lot better if money is an issue. It will cost you nothing but time.

^ What he said, if you machined them out there wouldn't be anything left. I just bought a set of 07 CRF450R Forks, triples, bar mounts, master, line and calipers off ebay for only $235 shipped. Down side is that the fork seals are absolutely blown and need replaced. But still there are good deals out there. All I need is a wheel and an axle and its a whole CRF front end.

You have two options for fitting the forks.

A) These guys sell a kit that lets you bolt them right up for $60 bucks.

Or B) You can machine the center of the CRF triple down to fit on the XR.
