Shink 705 size?
I just recently got my first XR650R. A 2002 plated bike in nearly perfect condition, but I need more streetable tires. I was wondering what size Shinko 705 tires I should run on the bike? I was thinking 4.10-18 rear, and 90/90-21 front; will these fit without issue at this size on stock rims?

Re: Shink 705 size?
They should fit the OEM rims no problem. I ran the 705's on my SM630 for a while. They wore pretty well as I recall.

4.10 means 4.1 inch equals 104mm wide - which is less than a 140-wide tyre which apparently fits between the swinger.
So you could go to a 5.50 even, dunno what you want to do.

Master,
I've had quite a few race tyres on my 600/4, and all 'wear pretty well' - read: fookan well like in fast, 1500km max!
So what do you mean with that - they wear or they last long?
I prefer them wearing because that means grip, contrary to some jingching hard compound which lasts eons but spits you off.

No worries, I never said they last long, just that they wore pretty well. They didn't melt away like the knobs did/have been. I didn't think 1000 miles on a rear tire was really that bad. Not great but not bad. I've got about 300 miles on my rear 606 and i have my fingers crossed it has another 300 left in it. But I was riding mostly street on the 705's at 30psi. I'm running the 606's at 25psi and take the shortest route possible to dirt. But don't forget 705's are cheap. The 705's I got were on sale and I scored a rear 140/17 for only $55 bucks compared to a D606 130/17 for $95...

Side note
Just observing your conversation, am I to understand that you can run a 140 on the rear without any clearance issues? Ben

I can't 100% confirm that for the XR650 but I want to say I think so. The tires I was buying were going on an SM630 and I could run a 160 Q2 on that bike.

What type of wear did individuals get?
I was looking at the same tires. What type of wear did individuals get? Is the dirt performance acceptable?

Re: Shink 705 size?
I was running a 120 705 on the rear of my XRR and it was great on pavement and pretty good on dirt, as long as it is dry. I was getting about 1500-2k miles out of a rear. Here i am dragging the footpeg on a kart track chasing a DRZ400SM (he was dust on the next straight!)
