why did Honda stop making the xr 650 r ?????????????
l've had some of my xr for years now well decades now 500r models , was wondering why did Honda stop making the xr 650 r and see that their top model now is the crf 450 r ??????????
Its was a winner at many events and many dirt bikers would still purchase them l'm sure . l didn't know till recently that many were converted to moto street bikes . l wouldn't but they look cool

Re: why did Honda stop making the xr 650 r ?????????????
l was talking with one my biker buddies which l ride with . He tell me that dirt bikes were and are made for class of racing in moto cross like the 125 / 250 and 450 class. l'm not current on the big endro races but what size of bike do they run now . l seen old reports of the xr 650 r winning many events . l wish they still made our model of bike for parts availabity in the furture . Does any one know the fiqures of xr 650r sales in the last years of production 06/ 07 . This maybe the reason also if sales dropped
What are your thoughts , l wish their were still available to the dirt rider like my self

Re: why did Honda stop making the xr 650 r ?????????????
Because the sales have dropped significantly .
Why have the sales dropped ?
Because the bike was too reliable and the customers had no need to buy new one +
The era of lighter and smaller bikes had arrived ( crf 450 ) as they can match the performance of the big old school enduro bikes with much less weight = more fun .
The only downfall is that they are having more reliability issues , mainly because the higher compression ratios and higher revving engines .
I am keeping the old girl but thats just me .

BUT BUT BUT my XR650R weighs 132kg, owes me about $5500. now if i goto a CRF450X it weighs 123kg and ive gotta spend $7-8000 for the same....to me its not worth the trouble for 9kg
ive got a CRF450R and its great bot a totally different beast to the X and weighs in just over 100kg

Re: why did Honda stop making the xr 650 r ?????????????
PIGGI is not that heavy really , but it feels like it is compared to katoom 690 for example , because the fuel sits higher up and that moves the center of the gravity higher = it feels more top heavy . If i was designing new XR i would place the fuel tank under the seat ( where the air filter sits ) and the air filter and air induction system where the tank is now ,
result - cleaner air sucked in + the possibility to use the positive pressure to increase the HP like on sports bikes ( kawaski RAM system for example ) ...
Someone is dreaming again ,.... ok i take my coat .

Re: why did Honda stop making the xr 650 r ?????????????
l like mad frosty Post on a newer xr !!!!!!!!!!!
l was checking out the new line of honda bikes and Honda will attempt to win with a 450 cc bike , l know their a bit lighter but much less hp and torque , Like Mad stated and others the compression ratio are high and shorter engine life
My friend and l have ridden xr for a long time and their still alive and well he was looking for another bike and have been looking for him as well . He wanted a xr 650r now wishes for XL which is street legal
After looking at the Honda 2014 line up l see no bikes in the xl or the xr group , only the crf 450 r , The big races that is are long distance desert type races l would still think a 650 would be better. times are changing and all but l quess l'm old school
thanks mike
