Nice trip matey
I've done that before, a lifetime ago. TBH I would use Mefo Super Explorer on the back, MT21 on the front, meaning you don't have to once think about changing tyres
Make sure you allow enough time to go "off-piste" in Owaka forest - some great trails in there, as long as the greenies have not closed them all by now...

And please do me a favour...
Stop at Hampden, ride onto beach, and down to the Moeraki Boulders. Take piccie of your bike next to a boulder It was part of my daily commute to school by dirtbike
PS - "bigkuri" is the name of the local creek that flows out at Hampden

luggage
yes it weighed about 25kg, the givi panniers were full off heavier items, gearsack had camp stove, bike lock etc, had the tent &bedrolls as a back rest, that togeather with my modded seat & sheepskin s/cover gave me a fairly relaxed ride, took around 2-3hrs to get sick of sitting down, unfortunetly i didnt get your email regards the boulders till i got back, i did ride past them on my way to dunedin from waimatebigkuri wrote:Great shots!!

malborough sounds pics
came out of the foggy hill to see titirangi bay, the road out thru the kenepuru sound has 1300+ corners in the first 45km's, it is switchback heaven, the day i went was rather overcast but it didnt affect how beautiful it is...
