My bike is an '01 that I bought a little over two years ago. I got it with the super moto rims installed and a cut down CRF front fender. Included with it were the original dirt rims with decent dual sport tires, the factory front fender, and a black headlight bezel.

Ok not got the hang of posting pictures. I'm not sure why it's a link and not the picture. I've been trying to post up pictures since last night.

my first modification. Handgaurds. And yes that is a manual horn.


Then I had to add mirrors to my hand gaurds.


Then I added a fender bag and a Wolfman luggage Tankbag. Oh yeah and a handlebar pad.

Fully loaded for a camping trip.

So I noticed my bike was running on the hot side.


Thought it would be a good time for a tune up.


Stripped down to drain the radiators and change the sparkplug.


Rigged up a pop can drain funnel. worked ok, but may need a redesign.


I've got a couple of different headlight options, but I'm waiting until I get an upgraded stator. The black one actually came with the bike (new not installed), and the white one I got with the Baja Designs dual sport kit. Which I will install hopefully this winter.

I know an adjustable wrench isn't the right tool for the axle nut..... but hey I was too impatient to wait until I had the right tool.


time to ride dirt for a while!


My bike stand also holds beer!    too bad there's a big red pig on the cooler.

or hay fields. Gotta watch out for them hay bales though, I've read the stories.

Too bad I have to ride asphalt to get to the dirt, does a number on my tires.

Due to lack of tread, I had to put my sumo setup back on.


Finally ordered these Michelin AC10's


Then I got them all mounted up and read to go.  


Took the bike out for a test ride, and after riding it with the street tires mounted for about 8 months, I had forgot what a beast it is in dirt trim. Throwing the gas to it in 2nd gear on asphalt Does not result in a wheelie, but the back tire spinning.


This was the result of my 5 minute test ride.  


Recently ordered this 4.3 Clarke natural tank.


The install was very easy, only issue I had was the rubber around the frame had to be trimmed just a shade to get the tank to sit all the way down.

This picture was post ride, bike is pretty clean because I rode home in a torrential down pour. Stopped raining on me about 3 miles from home.

I Just installed this tool pouch this week. I always liked them on the older XR's. Got it off of eBay for $45 it's actually for a XR600R.

Thanks for the pictures, glad your enjoying your piggy....best rule is to always keep her clean and away from dirt/mud......

Well I've actually ditched both the horn and the fender for my latest setup. I also have a brand new black front and rear fender in my storage building. Then I ordered black radiator shrouds, but they're on back order. The guy from xrsonly told me I'd have them some time this month. I also have a new black gripper seat cover I need to install, but first I need to find some seat foam because I'm going to add to and reshape it. (Hurts my back side after 50-60 miles on blacktop). Also I have all new graphics ordered for it. Oh yeah I also have a set of renthal fat bars and protaper bar adapters to install. More pictures to come whenever I get the time to do more work to her.

Be carefull with the mods , as before you realize it you will spend "new ktm type of money "

Well keepin her clean is sometimes easier said than done. Plus mud adds character. Or at least that's what people tell me about my jeep.

You're definitely right about that. I've probably got right around $4500 invested in the bike total. And plan on about another $2000-2500 in upgrades by the time I finish. I wouldn't mind having a new ktm 500 exc if I hit the lottery, but I wouldn't trade my bike for one. XR's are the bikes I grew up on. My first was an '86 XR80R.

I plan on pulling the engine out and polishing the frame this winter. Want to replaces all seals and bearings. As well as rebuilding the forks and shock. Plus this bike has a lot of aluminum which helps cut down on the amount it can rust.   

I got a few new things over the weekend


My current bars and setup. I bought the bike with these bars on it, does anybody know if these are the factory bars? I've seen other bikes with silver sets, I'm just curious.


Stripped the old bars off and about to fit the adapters.

I had to check the width on the adapters to the bar pad openings...... apparently you can install them backwards  


Side view of adapters. Really happy with the fit and finish, protaper makes a good product.


New bars mounted......... sort of. My handgaurds don't fit, going to have to modify.



Throttle cable is too short or in a bind. I didn't have time today to pull the tank off and check the cable routing.  
Everything is just lightly tightened, guess I'll call it a mock up. 

Shift the throttle cables to the rear of the bars/ pad, I have the same bars and this works for me.

Awesome. I was going t ask if anyone had their cables ran on that side and if it would cause any problems. I guess that answers my question before I asked.   
I've also got to modify my handguards, hopefully I can find time to do that tomorrow.

Your right stock bars are silver   looks a good solid set-up.

I am sure that those are the stock bars just painted black .

To answer your question, yes. The previous owner must have taken them off. I really want to buy a set and put them back on, I'm just waiting until this winter when I plan on doing the fork upgrades.

Bought these fenders a while back, kind of piecing together all new plastic and then I'll change it all out at once.


bought some cheap graphics off ebay ($35) thought I'd go ahead and apply them to the plasitcs I have


looks good from a far, but far from good


The sides wrinkled up no matter how much I heated them and pressed on them


......So I took a razor and trimmed the sides off. Problem solved.

Stickers on curved surfaces can be pain ....
