Piston oil spray jet

Re: Piston oil spray jet
I checked schematic don't see any clip that holds it in place! It must be held in by the O-rings but don't take my word for it, not sure unless I had it in my hand! maybe someone on here has dealt with these before who will chime in!
here's the schematic if you want to check it out!

Re: Piston oil spray jet
If there's oilpressure behind it something must hold it in place, mere o-rings won't do that.
Check the barrel's bottom, does this have something sitting on / holding this jet?

Re: Piston oil spray jet
I have replaced the o rings on the oil jet and you can not push it in with your fingers and if you do it will fall out and do bad things. I oiled the o rings and used a half inch piece of wooden dowel and had to give it a good quick rapp with a small hammer. You will feel it when it pops into place. 2000 miles later and all is well.

Going to try that quick. I am using the correct Honda o-rings and have confirmed the measurements - the top ring OD with o-ring on the jet is 11.9 and the hole (measured crudely with the back end of a 12mm drill is slightly over 12mm) - Now there is a problem already
Bottom one OD is 10.1 and the hole measured with same crude method is just over 10mm
I see Honda has superseded the lower o-ring twice already to fatter ones. I am going to supersede the top one myself - The top one is 8.5 ID and 1.7 thick (bottom after superseding is 6.8x1.9 thick)
Size of grooves on jet
Top = 9.03x2.3
Bottom = 7.09x 2.1
Will go try the whack method quick to see if it seats better
EDIT - probably not worth checking the whack method - with the o-rings on it seated all the way in and I just checked with no o-rings and it also goes all the way in but apart from the o-rings there would be nothing else to hold it or seat it better

Re: Piston oil spray jet
There is nothing else that holds the oil jet in place except the o rings. I could not even come close to seating the oil jet in all the way with the 2 new o rings by using my fingers. Only way was tapping the oil jet.

On closer inspection I see the oil does not come in through the jet at the bottom and out the top - There are holes almost like an emulsion jet between the 2 o-rings - The oil comes in between the 2 o-rings then some sprays up to the piston and I assume down some to a bearing.
Perhaps the difference is that I oiled the o-rings and turned it as I pressed it down and that is why it did not need knocking in to seat.
Just for piece of mind I got slightly different o-rings and they now have an OD about ,2 of a mm bigger than stock when fitted than the originals - It is a much tighter fit and in view of the fact I now know the oil pressure is not coming from the bottom I am sure it will not pop out.

Re: Piston oil spray jet
If I'm not wrong that spray is keeped in place by the bottom of cylinder..

Ahem....
I told you's so!
Erm, no, wait, I asked you's so
Chris jou bliks..., pls check and let us know?
(Chris has got his entire engine apart at the mo, he should be able to check quickly)

Please see photo above - Already got cam in now - Too late to check but if anyone has a loose right side casing and a barrel they can let us know

For some reason email notifications were not coming through so I missed your post. I would have checked at the time if I had seen it.

Re: Piston oil spray jet
You know I never thought of the bottom of the cylinder holding the oil jet in place. Makes sense if it does.

Sure does and would be a "nice to know"
Anyway, if you guys want the size o-rings I used for a snugger fit I can measure them up.

Re: Piston oil spray jet
Mind, if this oiljet is fed by holes in the side (ie radial holes) and only has a hole on one end (ie a single axial hole, the oil-jet) then it needs very little to hold it in place, the dual O-rings will suffice.
The OP might know is this is the case?

It sprays up and down - both ends

Re: Piston oil spray jet
Then, if the bottom of the hole is blind it needs something to secure it.
If it sprays on the bearings or something at the bottom then not, it'll be sortof balanced.
And Chris, where's me tools bru?
Got weeks of spannering ahead of me, it's high time for that braai you were going to throw - I'll bring some wine, no sweat. You got the number.....

It sprays down but not sure if to the right side balancer bearing or off to somewhere else
Will make a plan with that braai and my engine will be 100% assembled this weekend.
And hopefully some day before I die XR650.CO.UK will sell me the parts I need to complete the project - I am just trying to get them to deliver to an address in the UK and I have had at least 5 family/friends over there recently that would have brought the parts and my swingarm tools over
