New One, glasshouse area queensland
Hi,
from Queensland
I recently got an 04 with 7600 km, I want to use it as an adventure bike.
100% stock, a little rough as used as a dirt bike, but good condition.
Crashed it into a tree 10k into my first ride after hitting a gully , front suspension felt like wood.. turns out the forks have something like 20w in them, and clickers were stiff.., so Im rebuilding the (leaking) forks and will also attack the shock using the borynack info on spring rates and valving.
My normal bush hack is a 250 2 stroke ktm which I mainly ride singletrack with , so this is a big unit for me, but Im sure for me the answer is in sorting out the suspension first. Power is fine for intended use!
Good site - lots of info!
A couple of questions though:
Can a submount steering damper with forward mount steering bracket be used with the Aussie speedo, or must it be changed for a trail tech unit??
thanks

Welcome to the site, not had anything to do with dampers but I am sure some of the others on here will chirp in.

G'day sa63,
Welcome! I'm from QLD also, live in Brisbane and have just acquired a 01 BRP with 3200 on the clock. The bike you bought is it the one from Cloncurry? looked like a very fine machine

I found mine at Traveston (near gympie) If yours was the one from Coffs Harbour, I called just after it was sold!
Off to MPE this afternoon to pick up shims and sort out springs.

No worries Sean,

No worries BuRP ,
I was wondering how the hell you knew who I was!, I don't know any one in Pretoria, that's for sure! although my high school years were spent in JHB.
How is the voortrekker monument these days anyway!!

Funny you ask, it's about the only thing which didn't get a new name here.... so I know what you're talking about
The ozzer Sean is SeanO (I think, on here), and he's been quiet of late. Prolly doing an extended trip in/across the Outback, maybe with his son and seeing all kinds of seeings worthwhile... oh well, some are luckier than me!
If you read here mate, have a good one!

Re: New One, glasshouse area queensland
I finally got to ride mine after revalving and respringing )48 and 10.5 rear spring, im floored by how fantastic the forks are. I have a powerline track near where I live that's chewed up by 4wd, and its handling whoops no problems whereas before I was hanging on for grim death - probably due to the treacle that was in the forks..
Shock is good but I need to play with it a bit.
It has come with a 110 wide tire, so it spins up rather easily. Will change for something bigger.
I think wheel balancing is called for on the front, it wiggles at higher speed on bitumen.
thanks to that borynack!
First ADV ride to Northern NSW in two weeks..

Hello sa63
my bike came with a 120/100-18 rear (retread) and the shock splash guard has been chewed up so I'm putting on a Pirelli 120/80-18 MT21.
It's good to see you getting your's sorted.
