Valve adjustment Q's Empty Valve adjustment Q's

Post  Guest Sat Oct 10, 2015 2:01 am

I adjusted my intake valves yesterday and the compression got really hard to kick over.

Before I adjusted it, it was still somewhat difficult to kick over compared to my fresh yz250.

Before adjustment at TDC, I could not slip in any feelers. Exhaust was perfect in spec at 0.008". So I moved intakes to 0.006" I have a feeling the intakes were being held slightly open at all crank positions.

It is clicking the auto decompressor, so I'm pretty sure it has a stock cam.

So my question is, how hard is it to get to TDC with valve adjustments? I can put my full 160lbs on the kicker and it slowly rocks to TDC, then I can kick it from there fairly easily.

Valve adjustment Q's Empty kick starting

yes if your brp's in good condition, it will hold all your "weight" on the compression stroke, the manual decomp is all i have, it is used solely to get the mtr just over tdc, prior to kick starting, the std camshaft has a auto decomp and a backfire decomp to avoid eng damage , to compression test the brp you need to set the valve clearence to 1mm to stop the auto decomp from letting out the compression.
also if you turn the mtr backwards it can give a false reading when setting the valve clearence, only turn the mtr in the normal direction it operates in, to get it to tdc position.
