Bars...how high can I go?
I'm 6'4" and need to raise the bars some...How far can the stock cables go safely?

Bars height
I installed the "Sub Mount" (3" risers) sold by BRP/Scotts for my stabilizer and BRP sold me longer cables as well. The "Windam" bend protapers offer the most "rise" and the least amount of pullback. (So they are the tallest and flattest bar you can get from Protaper)KTM265 wrote:I'm 6'4" and need to raise the bars some...How far can the stock cables go safely?
I am 6'0" and like my bars high for comfort while standing for long periods. You can go taller than I have with the cables they sold me.
A funny story about the "sub mount". Jim Rios own's BRP. He has a buddy that is at least 6'4" and at the time was racing D37 grand prix's in the same class as me. I was looking at this mount (on a KTM) and jim asked, what do you think? I said great idea for several reasons. At that time it was a 1 off mount for his tall buddy. Well the rest is history. BRP has been making that mount for at least 10 years now.
BTW BRP does most all if not all CNC work for Scotts.
Contact BRP they will take care of you.

Re: Bars...how high can I go?
Is there a bar out there more rise than the "Windham" bars i use these with an inch riser.
If i can find a bar taller i'd use it without the risers.

Re: Bars...how high can I go?
I'll check out the bars... I have a GPR stabolizer that use to be on my KTM 250 EXC. I'm going to get the XR mount and transition that over. In theory I should have enough cable and still get a couple of more inces out of the bars.

Yes, the Pastrana FMX aka quad is tall. I wanna say it's about 4.75 inches of rise. I have the Fasstco Flexx bars in double enduro high and they are about 4.5 inches. I am running longer cables with my Eddie.
One thing you do need to worry about when going high is your decomp cable. If it's strung too tight when you go extreme right or left you can kill your motor. It actually activates it. Ask doug@dsa how he knows.

That's a fact - been there, done that
When/if you replace your throttle cables, you can fab a "free" long decompresion cable by using one of your old throttle cables and a universal screw type barrel cable end on the engine side.
Works great since it's a low pull application & you can't beat the price.

Not that Pro Taper offers, that I know of.

Re: Bars...how high can I go?
I picked up a Pro Taper fat bar and Moose Risers. By the numbers it's just under 2 inch increase...

Re: Bars...how high can I go?
Pro Taper Travis Pastrana FMX Contour bars they measure, width is 775mm, height is 121mm and pull back is 55mm. Hope this helps

In the Tucker Rocky catalog they are listed as ATV Hi Contour bars.

Re: Bars...how high can I go?
I can't answer the original question about whether the stock cables will fit, but with the extended cables my setup works fine (BRP sub-mount, Windham pro-tapers, AND I sandwiched in 2" tusk universal risers ($20 at rockymountainatv)). That setup is taller than anyone else's that I've seen. I'm almost 6'4".
Taller bars would have looked better than my lego-stack-looking risers, but I bought the windham bar at someone's suggestion and am too lazy to go with new bar. I don't find windhams all that tall. Also wouldn't have minded moving them an inch or two forward (away from me), but what am I gonna do, put Rox risers on there too?!
Or maybe go with harley bars:

Re: Bars...how high can I go?
I got my bars bolted up last night...Everything fit, stock cables were long enough. Like you mentioned, I would love to now move the bars forward. I can live with this for now. My next step is to figure how to get my GPR worked into this. I have my GPR from my KTM250exc. I need a new mount kit...etc...Not a priority right now but probably within 6 months I'll be putting that together.
