Need advice on how to install the Acerbis 6.3 sahara tank.
I am having trouble install my Acerbis Sahara tank. I am running the large Fluidyne Rads. The tank doesn't hit the Rads. It does touch the coolant line that runs from one rad to the other rad.
I installed the tank bracket, made by Hodakaguy to the front motor mount. I couldn't find the instructions.
The installation instructions from Acerbis are useless. the tank just ends up being 5/16 of an inch aft of the mounting points. WTF? Where on the frame do you mount the rubber tank/frame protector?
Any thoughts?
I need a step by step method to install the tank.
Please help Thx,
Bob

common with some other tanks too I think
That fitment problem is common. Some people make a simple bracket that will accommodate the gap. That's what I did. Everything fits pretty snug up there...
You need to wrap the line that connects both tanks with something stout. It rubs through where it run through the frame as it crosses over. You can use a larger piece of hose for example. Or glue some inner tube there. You get the idea.

Wish I was there to help.
Are you running front turn signals? If so be prepared to modify the way their mounted or you'll loose your turning radius.
My solution here - Turn Signal Relocation
I take it you transferred the mounting hardware from your other tank to the Acerbis? You pretty much have to muscle the thing on and bolt it down in the stock location.
The Tanker Brace should be about your last step.
The Brace mounts on one of the main engine bolts (usually without the washer) near the bottom of the frame. You should have to force that in as well per its design to bow the tank outward. Hodakaguy did this so as you add fuel the tank won't touch the radiators. I was there with Tom during some of the prototype bug fixing and we talked about the difficulty of mounting the Sahara tank and I assure you he paid a lot of attention to every little bend to make it a great brace. Mounting the tank is a pita but achievable...I did mine and helped mamacone do his...It wasn't easy but we got it.
Post some pix of the trouble issues and I'll help the best I can.
Man I miss my pig.

HELP. More supertanker fitting questions!
Hi All,
I'm just trying to fit the supertanker to the BRP but things aren't going to plan. At all.
1st- What "O" rings do I fit to the petcocks? it's come s with 2X black, 2X green and 1X fatter black one.
2nd- Where do I put the half donut rubber cradle and zip tie?
3rd. when I put the supplied lower mounting braket on under the rads'
on the frame it doesn't leave me with much thread to screw them on. Is
this OK?
4th- Im trying to get the two rubber bushed mounting brakets out from
the old tank to transfer across but it appears the brass "nut" which is
embedded into the tank is spining as well. Any suggestions to get these
out.

I dont like the tank. I went out and bought a Clarke 4.3 gallon tank.
Just set the tank on you bike (i.e. dont secure it). Now sit on the bike. That tank spread your legs out like your humping a fat Roo.
Answers:
#1 which ever fits the best. I don't remember, but when I get a chance I will see which part are left over. I didn't use the supplied fuel lines. They have a history of deteriorating and screwing up your carb. I also a brass tee junction instead of the supplied plastice tee fuel line junction.
#2 I put mine to support the most forward portion of the tank.
#3 The lower mounting bracket are not worth a damn. Hodakaguy make the chizel bracket.

#4 Order the parts from Honda. XRSONLY make nice aluminum brackets.

Re: Need advice on how to install the Acerbis 6.3 sahara tank.
Thanks Aurora (BTW, your avatar still freaks me out ). Ordered new mounts today. Will get new fuel line and brass fitting tomorrow as well while I'm in the shop.
I'll fill it up and see if the petcocks leak. If they do I'll try tightening them or swapping them for the supplied green ones.
As for that half donut thing I'll give it another go. It looks like it fits on the top rad' hoses somewhere.
also I'v been in touch with "The Hoc" (through ADV) about his excellent supports and he will let me know when he does another batch
