right folks.

I've just pulled the xr out to discover the kickstart bolt head has sheared off; so nothing to grip. kickstart is still attached. Read about left handed drill bit - but what size would i need - what size is the kickstart bolt.

solution?

Pretty sure it's M8, the bolt shouldn't be tight once you can move it. Screw extractors would be the way to go sheared kickstart bolt Screw_extractor

Get a decent sharp high speed drill and carefully drill the middle hole, I would guess about 5mm the extractors normally have a drill size on them. Bolt won't be hard so as long as your drill is good it should be out within 10 mins.

Cheers Mauser. What I was thinking too.

Is it okay to threadlock this bolt in place?

Shouldn't need it really just make sure you get a high tensile bolt, I used a slightly longer bolt and then used a M8 nut to lock the pin in position...basicallly the pin goes all the way in and then the nut is tightened up against the lever.
