xr 650 r starts only with throttle
hi
my 2001 xr 650 r starts only when i open the throttle a little bit
it has a:
68s pilot jet
175 main jet
competition needle 3rd clip
uncorked
stock exhaust system with hrc tip, twin air filter, stock carb
she starts with one kick no matter if she is cold or warmed up. when she is warmped up she idles properly and starts without opening the throttle. when she is cold i need the choke on the 2. position and to open the throttle a bit. do i have to worry about this? is there something i can do to fix it?
any help will be appreciated
regards

No worries.
You bike sounds like it is properly set.
When mine is cold I perform the following procedure.
Half choke sometimes full choke
Ignition off
1) Decompression pulled...throttle full open...kick thru twice..not a hard kick
2) Decompression pulled...throttle closed... kick thru twice, not a hard kick, then slowly ending up just past, first notch past TDC on the compression stroke.
Ignition on
3 Decompression released...throttle closed...kick for the start
When warm...no choke
2) Decompression pulled...throttle closed... kick slowly to...ending up just past, first notch past TDC on the compression stroke.
Ignition on
3 Decompression released...throttle closed...kick for the start
Note: I shut off the fuel petcock off at all times until the engine is running.
