Talon front sprocket

Hi.
Just received my new Talon front sprocket in the post for my newly aquired BRP. This will take me 10 minutes I thought!

I'm not sure if I just can't see what's in front of me for looking or if I'm right - the output shaft splines on the sprocket appear to be in the wrong place in relation to the bolt on fixing bracket - by which I mean, when it's on the splines on, both line up allowing the sprcket to move in and out freely. They should be 'out of synch' so it can be turned, bolted in place and so fix it in place.
Am I missing something or just going nuts!
Also which way around does the Talon go? I'm sure the last guy has had it inside out as its been rubbing the frame - should it be flat side in, or out?
