New cables for new bars?
I am 6'0 175lbs and ride mostly on the street. I would like to get rid of my renthal bars and lose the crossbar and go with some Pro Tapers so I can start bolting up cool stuff like trail techs, phone holders, smaller mirrors etc. If I get something with a high bend low sweep and I going to need longer throttle cables? Is there a "show you bar set up" sticky or anything that I missed? I am not super tall so I don't need the highest stuff out there but knowing how much work the pig's seat does to ones rear end on a decent ride, I would like something comfy to stand up and cruise and give my toosh a rest.

Re: New cables for new bars?
Both renthal and pro tapper have crossbarless version of the handlebars , its hard to choose the right bend sometimes it takes few attempts to find the perfect fit .
I was told that i would need longer cables when i got my new handlebars , so i bought some
nice extra long motion pro cables just to find out that i dont need them as they are too long for my chosen bend . I am on the taller side but cannot remember what bend i have now , will look it up for you as this new bend works very well for me .

That would be much appreciated. If you are around my height and have a comfy set of bars that work with no crossbar id be inclined to know what those bars are. Especially if they work with stock cables.

Re: New cables for new bars?
Found it mate , its the Factory Suzuki/KTM Stock bend ( 92 mm height 46 mm pull back ) ,
i have spend weeks reserching what bend would fitt me the best and did some experimenting on my bike taking measurements , this was the closest to perfect i could get my hands on , and i love it it really works for me , the perfect bend would be 95 - 50 but that does not exist , if you do loads of standing up riding and like higher handlebars the Windham/RM MID bend its good as well (99mm-53mm ) , and the CR high its a very popular bend ( 95 -60 ) , not to forget the
Woods HIGH also very popular bend ( 97-61 ) . Best way is to look at your existing handlebars and sit on your bike pretending you are riding it at your prefered positions and see where /or how much would you like to move and what angles would you change . If you have lets say 77-55 Carmichael bars and you feel that you would like to go 20 mm up in height and 10mm closer to you you would need the Woods high bars for example and so on .
Hope this helps

Re: New cables for new bars?
Thats the stuff I like to read! Thanks man! I've been leaning towards the windhams. I like a nice high wide feel and want to be comfy standing up. Looking into triple clamps and new bar combo. Just want to make sure the cables are good.

Re: New cables for new bars?
I am also 6' and 175 and just installed new bars, risers and hand guards. I went with the ProTaper woods high with 2" Roxx risers which worked with stock throttle cables and clutch cables. I can almost stand straight up with this setup. The compression release cable had to be routed under the bar instead of going through the mounts and the throttle cables had to go behind the bar.
MasterE is running the ProTaper factory Suzuki/KTM bend, both setups are very similar.

That setup its much higher than mine - better if you do loads of stand riding , this subject its a very personal thing as everyone have a different riding style , conditions , ....
Ooeddym i am looking at the pictures and your oem cables look too tight with that setup , my setup is lower down compared to yours and the oem lenght motion pro cables are just right but if i went little bit higher i would deffo need to use the longer set that i have , not telling you what to do but you might get some problems down the road with the cables so tight , please dont get upsett , just trying to help you .

Re: New cables for new bars?
You are correct, they are almost taut at full lock. I had to make sure they were routed the most direct route and not wrap around the bars. Im looking at putting a flat slide carb on it which will come with new longer cables. I do like the high bars for standing up.

Re: New cables for new bars?
I have 120mm high ATV bars mounted on an aftermarket triple clamp that moves them up and forward with stock cables. (I'm 2m tall)

Re: New cables for new bars?
Yes it works when you turn the throttle assembly around , but on full lock its way too short , that is why they sell the extra long cable set i guess

Re: New cables for new bars?
You do have to re-route the cables, but they are fine at full lock.

Re: New cables for new bars?
This is all really good information. I just bought a set of Renthal Fatbars (red windham bend) last week and haven't had the chance to install them yet. I was worried that with the 1 1/8" bar adapters that it may make my cables too short. The adapters look like they'll raise the bars about 3/4-1" but I think that'll be just right with out the cables being too tight.
