Drinking Fuel Empty Drinking Fuel

Post  Mauser Sat Nov 22, 2014 10:08 pm

Ok I appologise for posting problems with a Yamaha on here but here goes....

The DT175 has had the carb stripped and fully cleaned new washer where required and the float height confirmed as being correct at 21.5mm....however she started 2nd kick after putting carb on and rigging up a temp tank....syringe she now drinks fuel as a silly rate ?....reeds are spot on ?....
Video here if anyone can help me out ?....

Hard to say if that is actually too high a flow without knowing how much was in the syringe.
I'm guessing its about 20 ml at start of video and it takes 20 odd seconds to guzzle it, so thats about 3 or so litres an hour, which does'nt sound too off the mark to me.

Of course, its likely I've completely misjudged the syringe capacity....so how much was in there at the start of clip?

Don't know much about these bikes except that they were one of a kind when they first came out!  could it be filling the float bowl? It might not look as bad if you used a bigger fuel container like clear 2 liter soda bottle, the syringe makes it look like she really is drinking fuel!

Was the choke still on? I know you have to add gas + oil but she looked really smoky that's why ask about choke. My 87' Honda cr500 would do the same if choke was left on she would definitely get rid of the mosquitos! BRP smile

Besides, and still haven't watched the movie, pls consider that a carb will intake more fuel than when static when the engine runs ie vibrates.... nudge nudge Bump

Problem sorted the end of the pilot jet was missing....wait you might say how could you miss this ?.....easily considering how small the actual jet is....lol...probably 3mm thread with a main hole being 1mm diameter...then it should neck down to about 2mm of plain section with a 0.3mm hole through.....bloody tiny is an under statement lol
Just collected parts from Yamaha will upload another video showing the new set-up.
