Finally got a registration fired off, though after reading the website and discovering they charge 15 squids a go to ride with them, you must wear a high viz vest in the woods, adhere to a multitude of rules and the only download on the site is a copy of the health and safety laws, I think I'll give em a miss....not my cup of tea

Good for you...tell them to jog on don't like rule makers during my fun times, bike riding is about hassle free and rules are hassle...

Re: legal forest riders forum
My understanding is that it is a group of volunteers who are working with the Forestry commission to get access for motorcycles to some of their land. Now the mere mention of motorcycles and access to land seems to send all official bodies scurrying for cover so the group have done well to get it off the ground at all. The high viz and H+S info are obviously a condition of gaining the access and the £15 charge is said to cover costs of insurance , high viz vests etc.
Remember that pay and play sites charge £25 minimum per day and are unlikely to have the quantity or quality of riding available on these days. Rides are graded from beginner to enduro expert. The expert route is likely to be beyond all but riding gods on the big XR.
I agree that the set up is not ideal and not right for everyone. I had hoped that the Forestry Commission would give permissive rights along some tracks but accept that this is unlikely. So I am also unlikely to go riding with them anytime soon but it is still a great effort by all concerned.
There are a couple of other internet trail riding groups in South Wales so there is no excuse for not letting the Pig see the mud.

Understood, still, not for me.
This site http://www.trailwise.org.uk/ is handy for finding legal routes, did some stuff around Porth last week.

From what I read..... a commendable effort, for your overcrowded part of the world especially! And, what other options does one have? I thought it was all locked up, Keep Out signs everywhere....
Here it's a bit different. By all means go ride into plantations, but misbehave (quads anyone? ) and they will try to hunt or ban you the next time, and obviously this stuffs things up for others. Sure, some areas are off limits, firehazard etc. But, plantations are just trees, most of the terrain is more open, bushveld or semi desert, and there is a staggering lot of it. Long-range tank is a must, carrying water also, and if there's some mobile coverage you're just lucky.
Yeah, a dreadful place to live in.....

Sounds like hell mate.
Re: the LRF, part of the reason I ride and fly is to get away from all that health and safety bollox, heaven knows why some seem to embrace it so readily.
