Need advices for better suspension (fork and shock)
Hello everybody,
I've search on the forum and I've some answer but ... I've already question.
My XR is a model of 2000.
I ride supermoto on the track only.
I am 20 years old, 80 Kg and 1 meter 80.
My suspension is OEM (fork and shock).
But my rear shock is too bad, at each corner it's the subsidence and the rear wheel don't hold the road ...
I've rebuild my fork last year, with 10W oil.
But now I would have a great suspension for competition.
What can I make ?
I've see a lot of things.
For the shock
Eibach spring, 11 kg
Race Tech spring ... not available ?
Race Tech valve gold
I need just change the spring and the oil ? Or maybe juste valve and oil ? Or the total ?
The total is expensive ...
I've see some riders who make his preparation with more shim on OEM spring.
I've calculated my spring ratio on Race tech website an I need more than 10.5 for the shock. So I need the 11 kg Eibach spring.
But maybe the valve only is better ?
Mayber too, if you're the valve with OEM spring it's bad ? Or OEM valve with Racetech Spring is bad ?
What is your point of view ?
The each question for the fork.
I need more than 0,5 Kg ...
So I would to buy Eibach or Race Tech 0,49 ...
What is the best ?
Sorry for the number of questions ...
Thank's for your advices !
Thibault

Re: Need advices for better suspension (fork and shock)
I've an other question.
Always I know
Maybe I would just rebuild my rear shock.
But I've not found a "rebuild kit".
In USA (with Partzilla for exemple), I found the rebuild kit only for the bearing (http://www.partzilla.com/parts/detail/aftermarket/XP-4159485.html)
In France I've found rebuild for the rear shock, that's I would buy (http://www.shogunmoto.com/piece/reparation-amortisseur/kit-reparation-amortisseur-kayaba---P4645?utm_source=Leguide&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=piece_suspension_reparation_amortisseur--Iziflux&utm_term=kit_reparation_amortisseur_kayaba-+-p4645--Iziflux)
But never for the XR.
He dosen't exist ?
If you know where I can buy it ... it's could be great.
Thank's a lot and have a nice ride

Re: Need advices for better suspension (fork and shock)
You be better of finding good local suspension specialist , it is not so simple to set up the suspension for sumo racing , but the pro's know what to do

I've search yeah but ... I've nothing.
I've call 5/6 guy but only 2 convince me, but they're a long way from me.
So approximately 130€ for a rebuild but with 60€ of transport.
That's expansive.
I've never open a fork before mine.
I've make it for the first time. I think if you take time and precaution you can succes !
Change oil and washer is not too hard I think ...
But if you can't have the parts ... it's would be hard
I've understand that preparation is hard but maybe just with a rebuild it's can be right.
And for only the rebuild ... I think DIY it's possible

Re: Need advices for better suspension (fork and shock)
Servicing the suspension its easy if you have the basic tools , changing the setup for totaly different type of riding + possibly shortening the springs , etc ... getting a good result in the end very hard , especialy if you have never done it before , i know i could not do it .
Good luck

Re: Need advices for better suspension (fork and shock)
Servicing (ie changing oil and clean gunk out) is easy and no special tools required. However you are talking about revalving/changing springs for what you want to use the bike for. That requires buying or making specials tools and for the rear shock - nitrogen to refill the reservoir.
