It's a Hotcam Stage 1 or not ?
Hello,
I've a question for every body who have already see the stage 1 from hotcam
I've order a Stage 1 from a seller on eBay.
I've received the part 2 days ago.
A friend said that's a Stage 2 because on Stage 1 he had never see the cam sprocket
And he had install 2/3 stage 1 for his friend but ... some years ago.
Maybe Hotcam have add the cam sprocket ?
On the packaging and in the packaging I've a small paper who said that's a Stage 1.
But I would to be sure if it's the real Stage 1.
I've contact Hotcam and my seller, but for the moment no answer.
I'm in France, so the delivery is not quick ...
I've put a picture
Thank's for your help and have a nice ride !

Re: It's a Hotcam Stage 1 or not ?
Well, dunno what you mean - of course there's a sprocket on it (or the mounting tags rather), you'd not be able to use it without them?
The difference between Stage 1 & 2 is the cam's profiles, duration rather, possibly lift too, and to a layman they will actually look identical, sprocket-tabs & all!
If you want to know if it's a 1 or 2 get the measurements of the camlobe's overall height (from Hotcams) and measure yours with a vernier.... that will tell you what you're after.

Re: It's a Hotcam Stage 1 or not ?
Just in case you're busy comparing a Hotcam with the std camshaft.... they look very different indeed!
The std cam has a (exh) valve lifting mechanism on it, lots more parts which this a Hotcam (or reground cam) does not have (anymore).
The only 'hotter' cam that has a working decomp system on is the HRC cam, rare as anything but they are out there. I've got one, was lucky to be able to get it, and it's safer because of the decomp system on it which works (of course, it's all genuine Honda).

Re: It's a Hotcam Stage 1 or not ?
Hey guys !
Thank's a lot for your answer, that's very nice
Peten95 : when had you buy your Stage 1 ?
A friend had buy some of stage 1 but 6 years ago.
I go to the Hotcam website, on the piture of the stage 1 and the stage 2 you had the cam sprocket
Stage 1 : http://www.hotcamsinc.com/ProductInfo.aspx?item_id=11
Stage 2 : http://www.hotcamsinc.com/ProductInfo.aspx?item_id=12
So like Mad, I think that they have add this cam sprocket.
Burp, my friend said you do put the OEM sprocket on it for use the part ahaha.
So I've order a sprocket but ... I need not to have it now
Yes I've see the difference between OEM and Hotcam.
But I don't know that on the HRC you had the decopressor system.
The HRC is like Stage 1 ?
Where are you found the HRC ?
I search for have one but I don't found the cam chain or an other part.
The production is really stop ?
On the Hotcam website you have the different degree but it's impossible to identify them.
My friend said the same thing.
I've take 2 measure, after I do make a soustraction :
41,75 - 33,8 = 7,95
For him it's a Stage 1
Because the Stage 2 is approximately 8,1
Thank's a lot for your answer, that's very nice

Re: It's a Hotcam Stage 1 or not ?
Ahaha I'm apologize I'm a ball and chain
The question concern the sprocket mounting flange and not the cam sprocket
I've not the cam sprocket too, but the sprocket mounting flange ...
My friend haven't received the sprocket mounting flange
I've not read enough the english terms.
But I've a second question for install the stage 1.
Without bunk this time ahaha.
For put the cam sprocket (on the sprocket mounting flange) how I can make ?
You have some inscriptions on the sprocket EX, and 2 arrow, (and the word : MBN)
But in what sense ?
If the EX is on the top of the cam
Or if he is on the bottom of the cam it's not the same thing.
I'm not at home before this week-end and I can't see the handbook of hotcam, maybe it's describe ?
On the Honda Manual service handbook for the XR, I've found nothing ...

Re: It's a Hotcam Stage 1 or not ?
Alors l'Americain Asterix
I bought the HRC cam from XRsOnly. I asked them if they could source one and the answer was yes but it will take time.
So I waited, several months... and then they came back with the good news they had one and it was mine!
Know that I've found that XRsOnly is bad communications-wise, however they do deliver! I've bought from them several times and will recommend them to anyone, just do not expect them to answer any little question per return email.
The HRC is neither stage, it is their own profile - ergo OEM Honda, I'd think the best.
XRsOnly do supply a copy-grind for which you have to send in your own cam, and note, the decomp system will be taken off then.

Re: It's a Hotcam Stage 1 or not ?
I never noticed a difference in starting without the auto de-compressor because I always use the manual compression release lever.

Keep just the draw of Astérix ahaha.
To hard to speak american
I'm student, the last week I pass a training of the TOEIC ... you're absolute crazy; the level is very high ahaha

XR Only could be great ... but to France the delivery (the minimum cost) is $100 ... It's too much seriously.
I've order a OEM cam chain because I've not the time to wait ... but maybe I could send a message for the next time, I hope not before 3 years ?
HRC Cam chain and maybe HRC cam could be great.
But a guy who try the HRC kit said he isn't very good.
JE, or Wossner make better piston than HRC

I always use the manual compression too.
But the last month she didn't start very good ...
I think because the engine have some olds parts inside.
The valve are not watertight, springs are dead too ...
And the carb ... I've put a OEM carb of CRF on my XRR but I've change nothing ...

Re: It's a Hotcam Stage 1 or not ?
Here is an idea: order the HRC cam from your Honda agent?
No you have, Yes you just may get
No you have, Yes you just may get

Re: It's a Hotcam Stage 1 or not ?
There are no HRC cams / chains left for sale , XR's only have few pistons left and that is it

Re: It's a Hotcam Stage 1 or not ?
I thought that too but asked when I ordered my h/c piston..... and I got a 'Yes'!
As said, not shooting is also a miss, and asking is free

Re: It's a Hotcam Stage 1 or not ?
You're right Burp ... next time I would to ask.
Or maybe by mail because in France spare parts are too expensive.
I've finish my engine
I ride the last monday, the last time was 6 months ago.
It's great
Just a problem with my clutch ...
He slip. When I'm on 4 or 5 the gear doesn't pass correctly. When I was on middle/high speed.
It's like if I don't to let go of the cluth lever, the 5th doesn't pass correctly, during few seconds the engine was like on neutral gear.
Clutch disc are not dead, it's maybe spring no ? Springs are not dead too but I've read that when you increase engine you need to put better springs.
I've see Barnett springs, you thinks that's could be the solution ?
