Gutted air box or K&N type filter?
I'm thinking about removing the airbox and going with a K&N type filter. Is there any reason I should stay with the original?

K&N?
That's a cotton-gauze filter.... which let fines through ie will ruin your engine when used in the dust.
But hey, the good news is... it's YOUR bike, so off you go, do whatever you like!

Good Lad Jason
And keep an oiled foam filter in it, whatever brand you prefer (UNI, TwinAir or OEM). Have a spare with you for longer trips (in a ziplock bag) and Bob's your Uncle!
