After market skid plate
2001 XR650R.
I recently bought the above bike and it came with an aftermarket hard aluminum skid plate.
It's the one that has cirlces cut out on the sides and 2 threads on the upper front.
How the hell does it fit???? is there some kind of kit that goes behind the main frame at the
front to bolt it up and something underneath?
Clueless!
Phil.

No idea, but ...
The Team bikes always ran the plastic skid plate. Ogilvie found that the metal and alloy plates generally caused more damage than they stopped. The plastic ones absorbed a lot of energy and destroyed themselves before transferring that energy to the cases.

Re: After market skid plate
so that skid plate is what gave me an idea, we all love our piggys but would like longer oil change intervals, why not make a skid plate like that and plumb it into the oil system, you would still have head pressure for the pressure side oil pump since there is still oil in the frame but now your carrying 3 quarts instead of 1.7.......hmmmmm. Just a thought.

saw one...
someone who had a Dakar BRP sold a skid plate with two different tanks on it I think. It was on eBay in the last year or so.
Seems to me, who knows nothing about CF, that the OEM plastic plate could be used as a plug for a Carbon Fiber skid plate.
