Hey you English Guys!!!
Thanks for giving us the mother language!
I'm looking for a Paraffin Gun. No one sells them here. Which one over there is best?

Re: Hey you English Guys!!!
Well I've never heard of them, but if it's for degreasing there's gotta be similar products out there for you. Paraffin is probably equivalent to kerosene.Bump wrote:Thanks for giving us the mother language!

Dang
I saw a show awhile back about a guy over there restoring Minis and he was using one to clean the engine parts. I see a lot of the for sale on eBay UK and all the Google hits are from the UK.

I'm not English, but...
Hopefully you mean one like in my garage, this?
If that's what you're after, it's made by Sealey and also by Clarke.
I'd have thought you could find one in the US, but if you definitely can't i'm sure we could arrange a bit of purchase & shipping assistance.

That's it!
Over here Paraffin is a wax, like in candles.
Here's one I thought would be good because of the large mouth (On the gun!)

Re: Hey you English Guys!!!
Almost the same as mine, but slightly larger bowl.
I fill mine with Gunk or Industromight degreaser because they don't leave the slimey smeg behind like paraffin does. A strong fairy liquid solution works well too!
If you can't buy one and get it shipped direct, buy it and ship it to mine and i'll sort out Fedex or something to you. No worries.

Re: Hey you English Guys!!!
I'm still surprised there isn't a kerosene type sprayer easily available in the US. Found these 2 products in Oz just by Googling 'degreasing gun'.
http://www.itwfinishing.com.au/profile.php?product=99
and this one would be good for baking soda: http://www.itwfinishing.com.au/profile.php?product=96.
But neither are much use to you if they're not available domestically.
In the US I found this http://www.tools-plus.com/vermont-american-79815.html which is nearer the mark, and some at Grainger like http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/2Z857?Pid=search
I've used Gunk degreaser also, applied with a trigger-type hand sprayer and worked in with an old paintbrush. And yes Fairy washing-up liquid works well too, but I use it neat. Doesn't stink like Gunk does.
Cheers,
Phil

Re: Hey you English Guys!!!
I think kerosene is more refined than diesel, used to be sold widely in the UK (as paraffin) for domestic oil lamps, blowtorches and greenhouse heaters. Last lot I got was from a hardware store or garden centre, where it's sold for those greenhouse heaters. It smells much milder than diesel, and when burnt smells the same as jet engine fumes (kerosene and Avtur are near enough identical I think).Bump wrote:Isn't kerosene like diesel? Isn't that kinda oily?
Never tried it for cleaning but I imagine odourless BBQ lighter fuel would do a similar job.
Oh and there's always http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerosene for a fuller story.

Thanks Phil!
kerosene used to be pretty common over here for heating and lighting. But I wouldn't even know where to look for it. I think Paraffin over here is mainly a wax.
Never heard of Avtur but aim guessing it's what we call JP4 or jet fuel.
Thanks for the link!
