Need help with poorly running XR650R Empty Need help with poorly running XR650R

Help! I have purchased a 2001 XR650R and am having the following
issue:

Starts easy by 2nd kick, runs great and
jetting is spot on. Runs great until temp (read on my Vapor computer)
hits about 220 F after 20 minutes and then just completely boggs and
will not rev over 3,000 rpm until the bikke cools off.

Unplugged
but basically stock.

Any ideas?

above 220F?
why does your tem rise that high?
according to my Vapor even in upper 80s
temp while riding stays below 190
sitting in traffic it once rose to 210

Sounds like your thermostat is stuck.

yeah the stat was stuck ... took it out and she runs around 175 ... but as suspected the cut out at around 5,500 rpms kicks in ... suspect the coil so just ordered a new coil and HT lead/sparkplug cap. will post my findings when the parts arrive.

Any other thoughts as to the issue?

Also I have a Baja Designs kit installed but that should not be an issue ... right?

Don't know much from the description but it sounds to me like fuel. I've seen a few guys who had the gas boil a little near the petcock so they put reflective heat tape there. But the fuel could be boiling in a few places.
