Running at last
Finally got the bike back together and running. Sqeaky clean carburettor and jets. New float valve and 68s pilot jet. New chain and sprokets, (15, 45) new tyres, new XRs only thermostat, magnetic drain bolts and XRs only case saver. Brakes serviced and everything else cleaned and cleaned again.
Was a pig to start having altered too much at once in the carb, but now runs like a dream. No popping on decel, and ticks over nicely.
Now need to prepare for a one week jaunt to the pyrenees next month.

Re: Running at last
Frosty, I've put on Continental TKCs. I wanted a bit of off road capability but still have some performance on the tarmac.
Tried them out today. I'm liking the new gearing (13/48 before). The tyres seem great at low speeds, but on the dual carriageway at above about 65-70 mph the front becomes very vague and almost begins to weave. I don't know if this is normal for an XR, but I've come from a big sports bike so to me it feels strange. Maybe I just need to adjust my expectations!
In France I've got a day of dull autoroute driving to get down to the interesting stuff, so I'll just have to take it steady.
Can anyone tell me what, if anything, I can expect to feel different by having the 68s pilot instead of the 65s??

Bike looks great
Does your exhaust can rub against the indicator holder ? mine does , dont get me wrong i like the FMF system as its OK for the money but its designed for the US version which has no indicators

Mauser! Next you'll be saying proper XRs don't have holes in the air box, 175 main jets or speedometers!
The indicator does touch the exhaust, but it doesn't seem any worse for wear. I'll have to keep an eye on it now. If I see flames in the rear view mirror I'll remember this post!

Re: Running at last
My exhaust sits about 10mm below the indicator bracket, I must be lucky

Re: Running at last
Nothing to do with luck , just with what exhaust system you have - how was it bend , the FMF system its the only one that sits so high , it looks cool and you can enter deeper water but it touches the bracket on non US bikes .
