foot peg Empty foot peg

On the kick side the foot peg needs repair I bought this bike to restore but this is stopping me. I have drilled through the front bolt hole and increased the bolt size this worked well. I cant do the same with the rear hole due to the frame widens out and is at an angle. The hole is flogged out oval shape and I thought I could drill it out to 12.5mm and use a hellicoil to repair it but the hole is so oval I cant get a decent tap and the helicoil wont take. I want to repair this bike but I may now have to wreck it to recover some of my purchase price.

Can you not get a threaded insert welded into the frame ? I know you will have to drill it out larger but cannot think of an easier option.

Search the net, for a footrest-repair kit for the XR650R.
You'll find a chap which does that plus he sells a cheaper alternative for the oil-sight tube.
His solution is to weld-on (to the footrest) a small bracket/plate so the front-bolt holds the footrest on either side of the frame-tube - lots better than only on one side!

This is a weak point of the Pig, so fix it well, you don't want to loose your footing upon landing one day Shocked

i think the welded threaded insert may be the only solution may be too pricy to find someone to do the job? Alloy frame
Tried to contact and buy the modified foot peg with no reply via email, Even with the modified foot peg I still need the back hole to have a secure bolt. Any other ideas?

What would I expect to get for parts if I part the 2000 model bike out?

Motor?
forks?
Wheels?
Plastics?
Speedo?
Headlight?
Shock?
Swingarm?
Exhaust?
Other?

You only gave us 4 mins to reply between posts lol.
Parts are only worth what people are prepared to pay....over in the UK a good engine with numbers is worth a lot £500 upwards...wheels anywhere between £100-£150 depending on condition.
To be honest only parts worth any money are the engine and frame with numbers and paperwork...specially the frame.
Just repair the foot rest don't break a good bike ? will only cost you £70 listen up
